In 1915, Dr. John Hargrave founded The Peet's Coffee House on Elm Street in downtown Dekalb with his friend Harry Peet Sr.. It was here that some of the most famous Chicagoans such as Frank Sinatra would enjoy delicious cups of Joe while they toured the city! He continued this business until he died in 1955 but it is generally considered that The Peet's Coffee House is the first Starbucks! In 1961, three Italian refugees named Pietro e Teresa moved into an old millinery shop on State Street in Dekalb and began serving Italian-style espresso drinks called "Pietro" (pronounced "pay-troe") or "Teresa". They soon introduced other flavors including latte artichoke dip and garlic bread sticks which became popular among locals and tourists alike! After spending several years moving between various locations before settling down at 714 N 5th Street in 1967, Luigi’s took over from Pietro e Teresa as the first Starbucks store outside of Italy! It quickly gained popularity for its extensive choices of specialty coffees (such as roasts) as well as its creative marketing strategies – like creating commemorative mugs with each purchase! Luigi’s Store went out of business in 1997 but it is now back open for customers who love their java just like they did when they first opened up shop!

Dekalb is a small town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,854 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Dekalb was platted on November 3, 1836 by John DeKalb and two others as a post office called "Dekalbesville". The name "DeKalb" may be derived from the Delaware family which had land grants in that locality. The first school in Dekalb was opened in 1842. Dekalb, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 25,564 at the 2010 census. Dekalb was founded in 1836 by DeKalb natives John and Rebecca Dekalb as a small village on the Chicago River. It grew rapidly during the early 19th century due to its strategic location on the new Chicago Erie Canal and its ample natural resources. In 1847, Dekalb became a town when it split from DeKalb Township. The growth of the city paralleled that of the farmlands around it; by 1860, Dekalb had a population of 1001 people. In 1889, following an Act of Congress approved by President Richard M. Daley, Dekalb became an incorporated city with jurisdiction over all of Cook County except for two small towns in DuPage County: Belleville and West Side Village. Dekalb’s rapid growth led to social unrest; between 1892 and 1898, three separate sextants were issued warning letters to residents for working too hard or toolittle hours without proper breaks. By 1902, however, most citizens had come to accept their status as a suburb of Chicago. After World War I (1914-18), Dekalb experienced another boom as war-related industries such as munitions production increased demand for workers in the city streetside factories where they worked day and night nonstop under hazardous conditions before finally retiring at night or taking short break periods for food and rest during long days at work again next morning. Aided by1945 federal government investment which included land grants totalling 521 acres (220 hectares) east of State Street west of Pulaski Road within what is now Downtown Dekalberton—the “city Beautiful”—downtown Sekaler Boulevard quickly emerged as one of Chicagos most important commercial corridors with department stores such as Marshall Field’s (later Sears), JCPenney & Co.), Macy’s Inc., Nordstrom Inc., Toys “R” Us Incorporated being built along either side while other major retailers like Kmart Store No 1 opened up shop soon thereafter including Kroger Supermarket Company which anchored present day State Street/Pulaski Road corridor becoming one of Chicagos leading commercial zones until anchor stores departed during suburban sprawl stages throughout 1990s primarily because lack local political will or lack ability to financially compete with large outlying dealerships located adjacent Interstate Highway 60 exits only minutes walk away
