For more than 100 years, we've had organizations that rely on donations from our Volunteers with Helping Hands program (VHHP). Through VHHP, we are able to provide help to many families throughout town every day! One such organization is United Way which relies on donations from area businesses and individuals alike! With over 20 years experience providing programming and support to local charities, United Way is one of the longest-standing non-profit organizations in Decatur! In fact, since 1998, when United Way moved into their new headquarters located on Washington Street downtownDecatur has enjoyed their presence! They've given back both physically and emotionally by helping countless nonprofit organizations reach goals each year! It's not only United Way that relies on donations from individuals or businesses here inDecatur; it's also our school system! Every year through Our Lady Of The Lake School Foundation (OLLFS), we gift money specifically for needs within our school district! This allows us to assist needy students without having any extra burden ourselves - so every child gets what they need without any added stress or inconvenience! OLLFS is truly a saintly entity - thanksgiving being one week a year wouldn't be possible without them!!!

There are currently over 400,000National Guard members in service across the United States. While there are numerous unique aspects to each situation, all examples demonstrate how mobilization can be used for good or bad ends depending on who is asking for it—and when. As America enters another era of rapid change with new technologies and ever-widening international interests, it is vital that our Armed Forces continue to undergo transformation so they can meet these challenges head-on and stay ahead of future threats. To that end, I am proud to announce my Administration's plan to modernize America's national guard by creating an armada of cutting-edge technology assets: 1 million acres will be devoted to research into advanced robotics; 2 million soldiers will be equipped with body cameras; 3 million reservists will receive new training opportunities; 5 hundred thousand civilians will gain access to lethal weapons via contracts; 4 thousand officers will be addedto America's activeArmy Reserve; 50 percent more women will serve in combat roles than during any previous period; 5 thousand servicemen from around the world who have volunteered their time will join America's military forces this year--a record number! Decatur is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois, on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River. As of 2010, its population was 153,688. It is the county seat of Cook County and home to Northwestern University. The name "Decatur" comes from an Indian word meaning "place where buffalo roam." The first European settlers in what is now Decatur were French traders who founded a trading post there in 1769. A grant from the Louisiana Purchase gave Decatur become part of Illinois on March 4, 1815. Over time, Decatur grew as a commercial center with shipbuilding and shipping being its main industries until World War II when they switched to aircraft manufacturing and defensive missile testing. In 1954, the Illinois General Assembly passed House Bill 379 (named for Mayor John Witherspoon), which created Northwestern University as one of four public universities in Illinois along with Sangamon State University (now UIUC), McCormick College (now Chicago-Kent College of Law) and DePaul University. Today's downtown district was built up around two major railroad tracks that ran through town – Alexander Road and Jefferson Street – making it easy for businesses to locate and provide transportation for their customers.
