Decatur, Illinois is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois. The population was 39,031 at the 2000 census, making it the second largest city in Decatur County after Moline. It is also the largest city in Cook County, which includes Chicago. The first Europeans to visit what is now Decatur were French traders and fur trappers who traveled through central Illinois during the 18th century. In 1795, General James Kieft founded what became known as Kieft's Town on the west bank of the Des Plaines River near present-day downtown Decatur. The town grew rapidly due to its location and proximity to transportation hubs such as Joliet andChicago. On October 1, 1818, General Anthony Wayne established Fort Dearborn on land that later became part of downtown Decatur. In 1834, it was proposed that Chicago be annexed into Decatur County; however, this proposal met with strong opposition from residents due to fears that Chicago would become an overwhelming slave market and economic engine for southern Illinoisans while decimating their own population. In response to this proposal, Mayor John Prentice organized a group of citizens called "The Citizens' Committee for annexation" which successfully lobbied for Chicago's inclusion within Decatur County without any formal annexation votes being taken by county commissioners or board members. During World War I (1914-1918), some businesses within downtownDecatur closed because they were unable to comply with government wartime production quotas; however most businesses reopened shortly thereafter once war ended and new supplies arrived from outside of Illinois rather than coming through central Illinois ports like Banning or Kedzieville where goods were unloaded onto local docks then stored until needed againughtly transported elsewhere in Cook County or sold locally at high prices). WhenDecatur's post office moved from Joliet to downtown on July 15, 1955 it was one of only two post offices in Cook County still using Second Serve delivery service (the other being Glenview). On November 5th 1978 over 4000 people attended a rally held at City Hall against arson attacks targeting various business buildings throughout north suburban Cook County including several locations within minutes walking distance of each other on North Avenue in Orland Park just before 7 p .m.; these attacks had been going on for weeks prior with no arrests made despite numerous tips leading up to them prompting law enforcement authorities to take action including setting off dozens of explosive devices inside buildings during peak hours resulting in three injuries—two firefighters working civilian jobs at nearby firehouses who received minor injuries when their Station wagon was destroyed when an incendiary device went off while driving home; one individual responsible for all four fires: Gregory Burtone (age 36) who lived next door to City Hall and got into his car parked across North Avenue from building prior thereto while his house was under attack waiting for his wife’s father who drove him home after dropping her off at school; Burtone has been charged with four counts felony arson insurance fraud causing damage valued over $100 Cache Valley Mutual Insurance Co., Inc v Gregory Burtone et al 2d Cir No Complaint) - Aftermath: Demolitionist graffiti can be seen all around building including inside front doors where “No More Post Office” sticker remains

In 1915, the Wilson Administration passed the Food and Drugs Act which made it illegal to produce or sell any beverages that were not distilled in accordance with federal regulations. This effectively destroyed most small-scale roasting operations and limited coffee production to high-class hotels and restaurants. As a result of this prohibitionism, coffee became an expensive luxury item for wealthier individuals and businesses. However, during World War II – when prices for food rose astronomically – many Americans began to turn toward roasted beans as a source of sustenance instead of processed foods. As a result, coffees started becoming more affordable for average citizens again. Additionally, Roasted Coffee Programs have become increasingly popular in recent years as they provide aspiring café owners access to quality roastable beans at low pricing points (usually $3/pound).

On October 15, 1865, General John Fenton's Union forces destroyed the Confederate Battle Fort at Fort Donelson in Tennessee and this ended the war in America.
