The Decatur Army National Guard has been in existence since 1865. At that time, the men of the Decatur militia were called to duty to help protect the city from annexation by Chicago. The first unit of the Illinois Volunteer Infantry was raised in Decatur in 1867 and served until 1871. In 1870, the Second Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry, known as the “Blue Jay” Regiment, arrived in Decatur and soon became an important part of community life. In 1899, the Third Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry was organized and served until World War I. Afterward, service with units such as Company H (1st Battalion) 111th Infantry were discontinued because of budget cuts within the army. However, a new regiment was activated for military service in 1922-1923 when companies F (#2), G (#3), and J (#4) were formed from local reserve units. These units served during World War II as part of Operation Torch which led to Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender at Normandy on D-Day on June 6th 1945. As a result of this event, General George Custer is credited with being one ofDecatur's most famous citizens.

The Decatur, Illinois Army National Guard was created on November 20, 1907. The unit was originally called the 1st Regiment of Illinois Volunteer Infantry. On December 12, 1907, the regiment was redesignated as the 1st Battalion of The Decatur County guard. On July 10, 1912, the battalion became a regiment and was redesignated as the 7th Regiment of Illinois Volunteer Infantry on October 16, 1912. The regiment again became a battalion on December 3, 1916 and became known as The 1st Battalion (Decatur) County Guard on February 9, 1917. On May 15, 1921 the battalion became an infantry brigade under command of 2nd Brigade Combat Team 8th Infantry Division which then moved to Fort Knox KY for training in late summer
Decatur is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 83,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Decatur County. The City of Decatur was founded on February 6, 1856 by John Decatur and his family. It became a charter city on June 24, 1907. On January 1, 2007, the City of Chicago annexed the Town of Glenview to make Mayor Richard M. Daley's home town once again within Chicago boundaries; however, Glenview remains an independent municipality with its own police department and mayor. The first settler in what would become Decatur was John Decatur who moved from Randolph County,, Indiana in 1836 and purchased 2/6ths share in the town site from James Blackledge for $1 cash and also furnished him with land for farming purposes John built a log cabin on this site which he named "Decatur" after himself On February 6th 1856 John and his wife Sarah set out from their home near Indianapolis to start a new life in what would be called "Decatur". They arrived on horseback at what is now known as White Street (now Elmendorf Road) just east of present day State Street and started building their home which they named "New Home Place"
The history of the army gift is one that has been around for centuries. There have been many different types and sizes of gifts given to the military, both in times of peace and war. Some of these gifts include items like firearms, armor, tools, food, and other supplies. It is also interesting to note that the army has often given back in kind to its own members through donations and fundraisers. One of the earliest examples of an army gift was a basket filled with provisions for troops stationed at Fort Ticonderoga in New York during the War of 1812. The gift was made in memory of Major General John Woolridge who had died earlier that year while leading his unit against the Canadan forces. This act by the army was seen as a gesture of sympathies towards its own members who were fighting on behalf of their country. Over time, larger gifts became more common. For example, during World War II Army Chief Warrant Officer Second Class George Smedley presented a quantity of rifles and ammunition to American Forces Europe (AFE) command headquarters in Paris. Similarly, after Korea's Liberation from Japan in 1950 an airmail bag filled with hot dogs, cigarettes and candy was sent to every soldier stationed there from US Marine Corps Headquarters at Camp Pendleton Calif.. Today's army gift tradition can be found throughout many different branches including law enforcement agencies as well as civilian organizations like Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts alike. Any type or size heart-shaped box can be used to store any numberofitems such as clothing or accessories. TheArmy Gift Association is currently working on developing guidelines for proper presentation within this typeofgiftgiving tradition which should become available sometime next year!
The modern army gift history begins with the development of artillery in the Middle Ages. Cannon was first used to bombard castles, and as time went on more and more fortifications were destroyed by cannon fire. The early medieval armies possessed only a limited number of cannons, and these were usually used for siege warfare or against other large military targets. As technology improved, so too did the ability of armies to use cannons for ranged combat. This led to the development of artillery pieces that could be mounted on horseback, creating an entirely new type of battlefield weapon. The early firearms also allowed armies to attack from long distances, which made them much easier to beat back into submission. As technology advanced, so too did the potential for battlefield gifts. In addition to artillery and firearms, army commanders began to favor items such as armor and horses. This change led to increased firepower on both sides of the conflict, making it much harder for enemies to fight back successfully. As well as providing an additional source of income for warlords, this trend also gave rise to whole new industries within infantry units that would later be vital in modern conflicts.
Decatur is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois, located on the Decatur Road corridor between Chicago and St. Louis. The population was 21,564 at the 2010 census, making it one of the most populous cities in Illinois. It is also one of the most diverse cities in America, with more than 100 different cultures represented among its residents. The first permanent settler in what is now Decatur was Nicholas Cooley who arrived in 1814 and built a cabin on the east side of town. The city was named for General John Cranch, commander of operations during the American Civil War and later Governor of Illinois. In 1835, George Stephenson erected a sawmill on Commerce Street which became an important center for lumber production until it closed around 1920 due to changes in technology. The creation of Normal School District No. 1 led to growth within Decatur as students commuting to Normal began attending schools outside their homes or traveling by bus or train to attend other nearby districts; this increased economic opportunity andiasm that helped make Decatur one of America's fastest-growing cities during its early years (1830-1890). During World War I, Decatur served as an Army training ground for artillerymen from Illinois (the Battle of Belmont took place here) before being turned over to the Navy on November 15th 1918; many people still remember when New York City's Commodore Perry landed his squadron at Naval Station Pier #2 here just two weeks after Japan's Attack on Pearl Harbor! In 1951,Decatur Mayor Harry Saucier ordered all businesses closed by order under law because he felt some citizens were spending too much money without contributing anything back to society-a pattern that continued throughout much OFDAC governance thereafter; this draconian approach ultimately failed to address underlying problems such as wastefulness and dishonesty among some residentsMany aspects which characterized 'normal' 30s life are no longer present today including single occupancy dwellings ('starter apartments'), large families (>6 members), high rates for auto insurance & gas prices etc., but these same factors have allowed FORDAC's culture & values unique perspective within DECATUR community...Today we continue our proactive work ethic while living "normal" lives while trying not TO be normal!
