One of the most iconic and well-known air forces in the United States is the United States Air Force. The USAF was founded on December 1, 1947 as a merger of the American Aviation Association, which had been created in 1926, and the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics. The USAF became an independent military service on September 25, 1957. The USAF is one of the largest and most powerful militaries in the world with over 100,000 active duty members and more than 240,000 reserve members. It has played a leading role in many conflicts around the world including World War II; Operation Desert Storm; Operation Iraqi Freedom; Afghanistan; and Libya. The USAF provides airlift services to numerous countries throughout North America and Europe. In addition to its combat aircraft and missiles, it operates a network of bases across thirty-six states across America providing support for countless humanitarian missions. The history of gift giving within the USAF can be traced back to at least 1946 when Colonel James Wickersham organized a gift drive for enlisted officers within his unit during World War II. This event led to what is now known as Air Force Day (December 1st). From here on out, Air Force Day would become an annual celebration marking various milestones within the service such as retirements or birthdays of generals or other top officials within AFGE (the organization that representsAir Force employees). In recent years, Air Force Day has also been used to honoringuished guests such as former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Barack Obama who have visitedAFGE locations across America during their respective terms in office. Additionally, AFBG supports local food banks through their Give A Gifted Child campaign which raises money for needy children all over America who require special dietary needs not currently being met by mainstream schools or families due to financial limitations/crowding/dismal living conditions etc.. Decatur, Illinois is a city in central Illinois. The population was 11,021 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cook County. The city is located on the east side of Chicago and is bordered by Will County to the south, Lake Michigan to the west and Decatur Township to the north. The area that now makes up Decatur was initially inhabited by Lenape Native Americans who were displaced after France arrived in North America in 1763. French traders and missionaries founded Fort Dearborn on what is now Wicker Park Avenue in 1768, which served as a trading post for fur traders traveling from Canada. In 1812, General Amos Richardson established Fort Dearborn civilians underLieutenant Colonel James Wilkinson took control of the fort after its surrender to Ulysses S. Grant at Yorktown duringthe American Civil War (1861-1865). After Chicago's incorporation as a town in 1847, Decatur became part of Chicago within two years. On November 3, 1853, Congress passed an act that designated Decatur as one of five townships (Cook County was formed out of land that had been disputed between Chicago and other townships) within Cook County to be named "Townships". The first town meeting was held on December 1st with twenty-six residents present; nine families lived in Old Town while thirteen families lived on Broadway near Normal University where Drury Lane still runs today. A new courthouse was built on Market Street between Erie Boulevard and First Avenue in 1858 following fire damage done by a tornado touched down near this spot on October 15th that year; it burned for three days before finally being extinguished by firefighters due to concerns about possible structural damage from soot inhalation). A new jail also replaced an earlier building used for storage until 1895 when it became known as Stateville Correctional Facility following statehood changes made at that time; it closed its doors permanently in 1931 due to budget cuts. In 1870–71 general store keeper John Henson opened what would become known as Elmira Plaza; it soon became home to several businesses including J & G Lumber Company which moved there from Harrisonburg four years later when they bought property along Erie Boulevard NW then razed their old building and began construction of their current structure which opened August 12th 1907 with fifty-four residents present including thirty six farmers who rented space inside.; A water tower also appeared at this time with taps running off Willow Creek just east of Elmira Plaza.. One of America’s earliest contributions to international warfare was its role in providing air support for Allied troops fighting in Europe. In 1945, after Victory in Europe Day, President Harry Truman issued Executive Order 13424 which created and activated the USAF. This order placed restrictions on military aid being given to other countries while alsocalling for an increased number of American aircraft exported to meet postwar needs. In 1948, General Curtis LeMay became commander-in-chief of NATO’s Air Forces and began planning for Operation Crossroads which would be America’s first large-scale bombing campaign against Germany pursuant to President Truman’s directive known as “Operation Paperclip.” This order led to America acquiring many top German scientists and engineers who helped develop new technologies within Nazi Germany during World War II. The crossroads mission saw American bombers attacking targets deep inside Germany using high explosives and incendiary munitions which caused extensive damage and killed thousands of people. Now considered a classic example of airpower at its best, Crossroads remains one of America’s most famous wartime accomplishments.
