Military gift history in Danville, Illinois begins with the Volunteer Infantry Regiment of Danville. The regiment was organized on October 5, 1868 and mustered in for three years. On January 9, 1870, the regiment left for Illinois to fight in the American Civil War. After arriving at Camp Douglas near Springfield, they were divided into two companies and assigned to various engagements. The unit fought at the Battle of Fort Donelson on April 12th and 13th before being ordered back home to help garrison Springfield. In September of 1870, the Volunteers were called back east and re-titled as Company H of the 2nd Regiment of Artillery. They served under General Ulysses S. Grant at Gettysburg where they played a key role in defending against Confederate attacks. The unit received an honorable discharge in December of 1870 after performing well during their service. After their discharge from military service, many members of Company H decided to start their own businesses or pursue other opportunities outside of agriculture. Some members even stayed in Illinois and continued working on farms while others returned to Missouri or Kentucky where they started new businesses or served in local militias until 1865 when Reconstruction ended following Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. In 1867, Mayor Atherton donated land northeast of downtown Danville to become Cook County Park which included portions of what is now State Street between First and Second Avenue North and between Randolph Street and Washington Avenue North today known as East Side Parkland Cemetery located just south from Northwest corner Third Street/East Side Drive along Chicago River frontage from present day Wabash Avenue (northwest side) across present day I-55 between Dearborn Road (southwest side) & Wabash Avenue (east side)), what is now City limitsDanville IL; this area later became part of Cook County., also one block north west side along present day Will Rogers Boulevard (northwest border), then east side along Armour Boulevard past light rail tracks line(currently 8th street & wabash avenue), now part afterennett park

The Danville, Illinois military gift history goes back to the early 1800s. The area was home to a number of militias and volunteer organizations that were used in various capacities during the War of 1812. Some of these organizations included the Danville Light Infantry, which was formed in 1811; the 1st Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry, organized in 1815; and the 2nd Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry, which was organized in 1819. Some of the more notable members of this community who served in the military include Colonel John Nicholson (1814-1892), who was a colonel in the Illini militia during the War of 1812; Major General James Scott (1794-1863), who commanded a brigade during that conflict; Lieutenant Colonel Nathaniel Banks (1798-1869), a captain with Company K, 2nd Regiment Illinois Volunteers who fought at Battle Of Prebletown on July 8th, 1812; and Captain Daniel Boone (1765-1828), an officer with Company G, 5th Regiment Michigan Volunteers who fought at Battle Of Fallen Timbers on November 22nd, 1794.
Danville is a small town in the southern part of Illinois. It was founded in 1831 by Captain John Danforth and his family. The community has had many changes over the years, including becoming a stop on the Underground Railroad. Today, it is a vibrant community with a rich history. Danville began as an agricultural village located about 12 miles east of present-day Danville. In 1831, Captain John Danforth set out from his farmstead to found a new settlement in what is now Danville. He named the new village after himself, Daniel Vinton (1795-1867). The first settler in Danville was Mr. Stevens (1807-1872). Other early settlers included Captains Amos Matteson and James Sutherline. The Village of Danville thrived for several decades until the turn of the century when its population decreased because of farming competition from larger settlements to the west and northward. However, during this time period some great improvements were made to the Village including: In 1851, Captain Amos Matteson donated land for a school which would later become State Normal School; In 1865, Mrs. Jane Addams contributed money towards construction of her home which still stands today as one of danvillet's most famous landmarks; In 1888, Rev. Wm Hanks purchased 3 acres adjacent to State Normal School for use as an open air chapel; And finally in 1912, Father Michael Jansen built Stations One through Six along High Street – these are now known as Holy Cross Church andState Normal School Chapel Ground Floor respectively – making danvillet one of America’s “oldest surviving villages†according to First National Bank Directory issued in 1916!

In ancient Greece, the army was led by commanders called stratēgai who were responsible for strategic planning and Execution of orders. These commanders were also in charge of finances, armament, and cavalry unit formations.
Danville was founded in 1853 by Samuel Danforth. It became a Pullman township in 1870, and then an unincorporated community in 1915. The population of Danville peaked at 20,000 in 1920 and declined to 10,000 by 1940. After World War II the population decreased again until it reached its current levels of 7,500 in 2000. The history of Danville is one full of pioneers who came to this small town for different reasons: opportunity, love of country life, or simply because they wanted to make a better life for themselves and their families. One such pioneer was John Ahern who set up shop on the corner of State and Elm Streets in 1853. He started out as a tailor but soon realized that he could do more than just make clothes; he could provide his customers with quality merchandise at reasonable prices. His success led him to open another store on Main Street called The Armoury which sold weapons and other equipment used by farmers during the time when farming was the mainstay of the economy. Another early business owner was James Wilkinson who ran a grocery store on First Avenue from 1857-1859. He also operated a tannery on Elm Street which produced hides for horses and other animals. In 1862 Wilkinson married Sarah Hutton and together they opened the first post office in Danville - which served as both their home and business until 1914 when they moved into their own house on North Fourth Street. It wasn't long before other residents decided to follow suit - within two years all Of Danville had its own public school system! In 1872 Samuel Davenport organized a group of men from Illinois' Upper Great Lakes region interested in immigrating to what was then known as "the new land" - specifically Illinois's central counties of Cook, Kane, Du Pont (now Milwaukee), Kankakee, Pulaski (now Peoria) & Sangamon (now Springfield). With only $1 each they set out across the prairies towards what would become modern day Minnesota! When they finally arrived there were many problems ahead: climate didn't agree with them whatsoever, no one wanted them around (most people hereabouts thought that "Indians" should leave), there weren't any good crops to be found... but most importantly there were no people! So began what would be an amazing journey for these men: learning English while living among strangers who didn't understand everything about them... but ultimately becoming part of an amazing community that helped shape Americaère today! A few months after arriving at his new home near Ottawa Junction – now Muddy Creek – Davenport met local farmer George Stephenson whom he knew from his days working alongside him on Stephenson's farm back east where he learned how to ride horseback & hoe seed corn etcetera etcetera... George introduced him to Judge David Stone who owned & operated Stone's Hotel opposite Washington Junction…Judge Stone offered Davenport & his friends bedroom #732 which still stands today (& has been occupied by various families over the years!)…Davenport rented it out 3 times(& each family had their own bedroom!)… eventually stone built himself a nice brick cottage next door (& stopped using it altogether due to high taxes!)… Many young men throughout America left rural communities behind during this time period looking for opportunities awaiting them elsewhere – including some eventual founders/owners/buildersof American factories like Ford Motor Company (!), General Electric Railway (!), Sears Roebuck & Co., Apple Inc., IBM PC (& later clones!), AT&T Bell Laboratories (& later Time-Warner!). However those same rural communities that welcomed these gentlemen never forgot whence they came; nor did they forget what type of person(s) had made them so successful! Some continued staying forever others temporarily relocated hereabouts before moving permanently somewhere else altogether 🙂
