Danville is a small town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,851 at the 2010 census. Danville is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Joliet Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Danville was Eli French in 1824. French had an estate on the east side of present-day Danville Township which he named "Eli's Forest." He also built a log cabin near where the Nosey Creek flows into the Des Plaines River and this was his home from 1824 to 1830. The first post office in Danville was established in 1830. It was called "Frenchtown". In 1836, John Smith moved to what is now Danville and set up shop as a blacksmith. He later became one of the leading merchants in town and developed land around his business interests. In 1849, General Nathan Bedford Forrest moved from Tennessee to central Illinois and began construction on a plantation about two miles west of present-day Danville. When Forrest learned that white people were living near his plantation he decided to move them out so that he could control them completely. He ordered his slave patrols to raid settlements throughout central Illinois looking for any white people who had not evacuated before he arrived with reinforcements arriving soon afterwards to take over those settlements' defense themselves should they be attacked by Forrest's forces In 1850, when news reached Forrest that General William Tecumseh Sherman had crossed Tennessee's state line into Missouri and been planning an attack against him, he sent word to all of his slaves requesting their help defending him against Sherman's advance party if necessary On July 10th, 1850, while Sherman's force was encamped on Prairie du Chien Road about three miles southwest of modern day Danville, five slaveholders rode out with sixty or seventy slaves each and joined Sherman's army as part of his relief column When they arrived at Prairie du Chien Road they found that most of Sherman's force had left but some tens of men still remained behind including General William Tilton who ordered them back inside the perimeter fence around Fort Dearborn which surrounded Prairie du ChienRoad 500 head of cattle were killed along with many horses during this engagement which ended with no gain for either side

Danville, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Danville has been home to a variety of cultures and people for centuries: the Potawatomi tribe inhabited the area before 1803, while English settlers arrived in 1795. The first black person to live in Danville was born here in 1868. The city began as a log settlement on May 5, 1861, during the American Civil War. On February 10 of that year, General George Armstrong Custer led his Seventh Cavalry into Danville from Nauvoo after defeating Ulysses S. Grant's forces at Ford's Theatre near Springfield. In 1865-1866 many soldiers and their families were quartered here before returning to Fort Wayne where they lived until their discharge or relocation back eastward in 1867-1868 according to historian James Kappeler. In 1893–1894 – thanks to an agreement between President Grover Cleveland and Indian leader Major Henry DeWitt Clinton – white farmers bought 640 acres (250 hectares) of land around what is now downtown Danville from the Potawatomi tribe for $2 an acre payable over time with interest; this purchase allowed white traders and farmers access to Indian land which had been closed off by Native Americans since 1679 when French explorers discovered it during their attack on scalped Indians near what is now Waukegan Lake Boulevard and State Street (now Danville Avenue). A school was built on this site in 1895 as part of a larger effort by White City School District No. 3 leaders John Neely Bryan and Edward Everett Hale to create educational opportunities for African Americans living within White City limits; soon after becoming superintendent of schools for Cook County’s Third Ward (the northwest Side), Mr. Bryan ordered new brick buildings erected for Black City School District #1 on East Delaware Avenue nearby which became known as “White Towne” due to its status as a primarily white community until 1949 when all black students were transferred there following Brown v Board of Education rulings Urquhart v Boardwalk Property Ownership Cases No 2 [1949] , 472 US 1 (1985). Today much of downtownDanville remains untouched by either development or alteration dating back more than 200 years! One example is Spring Street running perpendicular along Eastern Marketfront from Harrison Square Park directly across from the old First National Bank building – still standing & functioning today! Another such notable landmark dates back even earlier – just two blocks away from Harrison Square Park at North Michigan Avenue & Erie Canal street corner! That building once stood completed atop an older remains dating back over 100 years ago!! This particular structure known locally simply as “The Old Fort” played host over 160 years ago Battle Creek Road intersection leading upriver towards present day Scranton Township services also located just southwest & west of present day Confederate Cemetery
