Crystal Lake, Illinois is a small town located in the Chicago metropolitan area. It was originally founded in 1871 by Black Americans as a slave-worked farm community. The first national guard unit was organized on September 11, 1923 and served until November 1, 1954. The current Crystal Lake National Guard unit was activated on July 15, 1997. The first national guard units were organized to provide security for events such as parades and funerals of soldiers who had died in World War I or World War II. These units were usually composed of volunteers from local businesses and families. However, after the Korean War there was an increased demand fornational guard troops because of the large military presence in the city. Because of this increase in need, Congress passed the National Guard Appropriations Act of 1956 which designatedCrystal Lake as a national guard garrison town. This designation made it easier for citizens to obtain federal funding to support their local guardsmen and helped make CrystalLake one of the most militarized communities in America at that time. Since its activation,the Crystal Lake National Guard has responded to numerous emergencies including Hurricane Katrina; 9/11; Lockout/Tagouts at Gibson Island Naval Station; Shooting at Gurnee High School; Road Rage incidents near Barrington Hills and Tinley Park;andalustrated violence against women during the 2005 Democratic National Convention riots;and clashes between law enforcement officers and demonstratorsdystopian " anarchists." In all cases, members of the CrystalLakeNational Guard have been called upon to use their expertise and training to help resolve problems while ensuring public safety is maintained.
The national guard is a military reserve unit of the United States. It was created on July 24, 1947, by the National Security Act of 1947. The Guard may be called into service by the President for a period not to exceed ninety days in any one year and can consist of up to thirty-six thousand men. Its purpose is two-fold: first, as an emergency response force in times of insurrection or civil unrest; second, as a training ground for future officers and soldiers. Since its creation, the Guard has played a vital role in American history. In 1864, when Abraham Lincoln called out the Guard to suppress a slave raiders movement through Peoria County, Illinois; in 1898 when General George Custer led his Seventh Cavalry into battle against Indian forces at Wounded Knee Creek; and most recently during Operation Neptune’s Spear (Iraq War) in 2003 when 1 percent of all US active duty military personnel were mobilized for three months. On July 24th, 2017 Trump announced that he would make the National Guard an full time service branch comprising 4 million active duty troops with no retirement age and no limitation on how many years you can serve without rejoining Active Duty
The Crystal Lake National Guard was established on December 12, 1903. The unit was first organized as a detachment of the Illinois National Guard and served in that capacity for one year. On November 15, 1904, theCrystal Lake National Guard became an independent unit and was redesignated as the 1st Battalion of the Illinois National Guard. The battalion served in that capacity for two years before being re-designated as the 3rd Battalion on May 6, 1906. The battalion served in that capacity for four years before being redesignated as the 5th Battalion on October 2, 1910. The battalion was again redesignated as the 1st Battalion of the Illinois National Guard on February 14, 1912. The battalion served in that capacity until it was disbanded on September 30, 1916 due to World War I Eagle affections.
Crystal Lake is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,924 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and the downtown area of Crystal Lake is one of the most significant tourist attractions in that area. The village was founded in 1871 as a result of land purchases by George Stephenson and others who developed what is now Crystal Lake into a commercial center for south-central Illinois. The first residents were local farmers who had bought land east of present-day Crystal Lake from the Kankakee tribe. By 1890, the village had reached its peak with over 100 residents and two banks. However, during World War I crystalizing technology which created artificial ice fields made it difficult to keep up with demand for rink space and other products resulting in business closures and population decline. In 1928, John Dorgan purchased property east of present day Crystal Lake from Stephenson's heirs and began to build what would become his largest amusement park ever known - Dorgan Park (now known as Wrigley Field). Dorgan Park was opened on November 5, 1929 with a grand opening attended by President Franklin D. Roosevelt who said "This park will give people an opportunity to have fun without being embarrassed or ashamed." On May 25th 1945during World War II US troops liberatedCrystalLake from Nazi occupation after months of hard fighting due largely to Operation Overlord The following year saw major development when Northwestern Electric Railroad built a branch line directly into downtown CrystalLake providing services until 2003 when their line was discontinued due to budget constraints within Rahway Township which includes CrystalLake Village
The National Guard has a long and varied history of giving gifts. Some of the earliest examples of national guard gift history can be found in 1812 when Connecticut's General John Brooks organized a militia to help protect the state from Indian attacks. He donated 12 rifles and 4 pistols to the Connecticut State Militia. In 1827, New York's Governor George Clinton created the New York National Guard as a way to provide security for the state during political upheavals. The first national guard unit was raised in December of that year and consisted of twenty-four men. From its inception, the New York National Guard operated as an all-volunteer force with no pay or benefits. Over time, other states followed suit and established their own national guard units. In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge made it one of his policy goals to increase troop morale by creating public appreciation programs for various pieces of military equipment used by our troops overseas. As part of this effort, he awarded medals and grants to individuals who contributed materials or money towards these projects. One such program was called "Gift Aid" which allowed civilians to contribute special items such as clothing, tools, vehicles or home improvements to military installations throughout the country without having to worry about any repercussions from the military establishment. Crystal Lake is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,815 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Crystal Lake was founded in 1871 by John P. Gorman and his brother-in-law George Hirschfeld as a site for an agricultural community called "Lake View". Crystal Lake became a city in 1963. The first permanent residents of what is now Crystal Lake were German immigrants who arrived there from Bohemia during the early 1800s. The first settler, John P. Gorman, purchased land on the west side of present day Crystal Lake from Chief Whitehead in 1871 for $5 per acre (2 km²). One of Gorman's brothers also bought land on the east side for $4 per acre (1 km²). All three buyers formed a joint venture to develop their new community which they named after their families' homes back home: "Lake View". By 1875, development had progressed sufficiently that two plazas had been built and prices for land had increased to $10 peracre (3 km²). In 1863, when Chicago became a city, crystallake passed through into its municipal jurisdiction and began receiving mail from citizens there. City officials decided to rename it "Crystal Lake" because of how clear it appeared from space at night during one of their periodic surveys of the area It wasn't until 1915 that a proper civic building was erected--the current City Hall--andCrystal Lake residents officially took up residence on October 10th that year. After years of growth and development not only did crystallake become one of America's most affluent villages with beautiful natural surroundings but also saw evidence of racial tension emerging due to white flight following World War I; this led toilla API rioting on November 5th 1916 Sparked by Mayor Daniel McCarthy's plan to open all public services including libraries within 30 miles radius free to all citizens regardless race or color This event ultimately served as an opportunity for black people living near whitespace to start working together creating infrastructure such as roads and sewers while continuing hostilities between races which would continue into the late 1920s
