Crest Hill, Illinois is a small town located in far northwestern Illinois. The population was 5,853 at the 2010 census. Coffee has been brewed here since 1868, and the first coffee roasters were founded in this town in 1912. Today, there are over a dozen coffee roasters operating in Crest Hill and its surrounding rural area. The first coffee beans that were grown in Crest Hill were from Java trees that had been brought over by American missionaries to help spread Christianity throughout India. These trees were then used to produce Indian Hemp Seed which was ground into coffee beans for export back to America. In 1918, an Italian immigrant named Gaspare Spinelli started a small grocery store called "Spinelli's" on Main Street in Crest Hill. This store became one of the most influential businesses in Crest Hill during its early years because it served as the source for many of the local residents who began brewing their own coffee and selling it directly to customers. In 1945, Angelo Petrini opened his Own Coffee Shop on Paint Road near Crestwood Elementary School which would become one of the most popular tourist destinations within minutes of downtown Cresthill thanks to its large selection of quality roasted coffee products as well as its easy access to family-owned convenience stores throughout the village. In 1966, Joe Castiglione opened his own espresso shop inside of The Castle Inn which later became known as Joe's Diner due to its long history with serving up great breakfast food until 3pm everyday! As time passed and more people began moving into or live close by Crest Hills Village®, these stores diminished or closed altogether; however, some notable remaining stalwarts include: The Crowne Plaza Hotel (now known as Radisson Blu), The Allstate Insurance Company Building (formerly known as Pembroke Place Shopping Center), and The Applebee's Restaurant & Lounge located just east of Interstate 66 next door to Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church! Many older businesses continue to serve their community through their decades-long dedication to providing quality service and delicious food at reasonable prices!
