Crest Hill is a small village located in Macon County, Illinois. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. Crest Hill is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Crest Hill is one of the oldest settlements in Kane County and has been around since the 18th century. The first people to live in Crest Hill were the Nantucket Islanders who arrived on a ship called " depletion" in 1792. They built their own houses and farmstead on what is now North Main Street. It continued to be operated by Mr. Hays until it closed its doors for good in 1978-79 after being through many changes over its years of business operation including several name changes and moves across state lines. At that time it became known as simply "Hays". That store's remnants can still be seen today at 5 EAST 9TH STREET (now Howard Avenue) within walking distance of Crest Hill Middle School where it once stood as an outbuilding surrounded by high school students during lunchtime! In 1922, John Ladd moved his oil refinery from Michigan into what is now part of Northwest Indiana along with his family to take advantage of Illinois' growing ethanol industry; he named his new refinery Crest Hill Refinery LLC after his home town (CrestHill IL).
