The Crest Hill Army Depot was a site of mass production for the United States military during World War II. It was also the home of the first U.S. airborne force, which played a significant role inOperation Overlord. The depot operated from 1942 to 1945 and employed more than 5,000 workers. During World War II, the ArmyDepot produced items that helped support America’s war effort such as artillery shells, gasoline and ammunition, vehicles, clothing and much more. In particular, the depot produced key gifts for American troops serving on battlefields all over the world including those who fought in Europe and Asia. Throughout World War II, many different types of gift products were produced by the Crest Hill Army Depot. Some examples include cigarettes, candy bars and other snacks; golf clubs; bicycles; radios; tools; automobiles; boatloads of supplies and more! In fact, some of these products became household names like Gatorade (later renamed Pepsi), K-rations (later renamed Key Hoppers) and American Tobacco (later called Ralston Purina). In 1946, when America ended World War II with its victory in Europe it began to produce new needs for wartime goods such as cars, planes and munitions. The Army Depot was no longer able to keep up with these demands so it closed its doors permanently in 1945 due to budget constraints. However, this didn’t mean that army gifts were forgotten about! Many soldiers continued to receive special gifts after their departure from service including tattoos ornaments made out of army supplies like rubber banding material or construction paper duct tape! Today there are several museums located throughout Illinois dedicated to memory of those who served in our Armed Forces during WWII including at Crest Hill Army Depot where a collections room is open everyday from 9am-4pm for visitors interested in learning more about what happened here during that time period!

Crest Hill is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 25,814 at the 2010 census. Crest Hill is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Crest Hill is birthplace of Abraham Lincoln and John F Kennedy. The townspeople were forced out of their homes during the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 which destroyed most of the downtown business district and left many people homeless. The town was rebuilt with assistance from the federal government and private donors, including $2 million given by Andrew Carnegie to build new schools and a library in Crest Hill in 1893. In 1950, Crest Hill became one of fifteen towns located within the Chicagoland Metropolitan Area (later known as South Central Illinois) under then-Mayor Richard J. Daley's plan to create a "heartland" community within city limits. Crest Hill first developed on land that now includes much of Skokie Heights neighborhood on the Northwest Side of Chicago. A small hamlet called Ponds had been organized around a small mill founded by Nicholas Flournoy in 1797 and operated until about 1840 when it went out of business due to low demand for flour from farmers near Cahokia Mounds National Monument on the border between Indiana and Illinois. local historian James Wohlgemuth has written that "Ponds" may have derived its name from an aboriginal word meaning 'to dry up or break down', since there was no water available for irrigation beyond what could be collected from ponds surrounding farms." By 1891, when inventor George Stephenson donated his estate on Milwaukee Road south of present-day Northwestern corner Early Settlers Rd./Skokie Rd., west side east side - bounded by Heitner Road/Northwest Side; West Side: Ardmore Avenue/Skokie Blvd.; east side: Roosevelt Road/Evelyn Ave.; north side: Kildare Road/Newberry Rd.—the early settlers were able to irrigate their farmlands using large canals dug through forested areas upstream." In 1892, Cresthill achieved national notoriety when Mayor Richard J. Daley announced plans to built new public schools in CrestHill using funds contributed by Andrew Carnegie Mellon University trustee John Dolan ( cousin of later Ulysses S Grant). The war was fought primarily with artillery, as the country lacked any technological capabilities to wage a war on a larger scale. The USA also had to find ways to get its citizens mobilized for war. Crest Hill is a small town in Macomb County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,477 at the 2010 census. Crest Hill is located on the eastern edge of Macomb County and is bordered by the towns of St. Clair Shores to the east and west, Grayslake to the north, and Villa Park to the south. The first white people in Crest Hill came from what is now Ohio in 1795. They were Whitecaps who had accompanied General George Rogers Clark during his invasion of Northwest India. The original town site was near what is now Elmhurst Road and Old Tiffin Road. In 1809, John Davenport built a sawmill at what is today Crest Hill Drive and named it after himself. Davenport's mill became one of the most important in Macomb County because it produced lumber for local homes and businesses as well as exporting lumber to other states such as Michigan and Wisconsin. In 1827, David Wilkinson bought land adjoining John Davenport's mill lot for $10 per acre which he called Westfield Township (later renamed Crest Hill). He laid out a township with three square miles each side that included present-day Crest Hill Village, Ford Heights (later renamed Grayslake), North Ridgeville (later renamed Villa Park), East Ridgeville (later renamed Dearborn Heights), Hitchcockstown (later renamed Highland Park), Wellesley Hills (later renamed Oak Forest), Mechanicburgh (now part of Arlington Heights) and parts of Ford Heights including Dearborn Avenue today known as Stevenson Boulevard. In 1865, when Chicago was founded, many residents of northwest Indiana decided to move there because they believed that Chicago would be the new national capital. Many families moved into crest hill from areas such as Grayslake, Dearborn Heights/Oak Forest/Hitchcockstown/Mechanicburgh along with others who had originated in northwestIndiana or had family ties there like Ebenezer Woodson from Cleveland who settled in Rush City; Solomon Cole from Vandalia; Ezekiel Chandler from Belleville; Benjamin Fenton from Albion; Elijah Lovejoy from Ionia; Jabez Potterfrom Eudora; Levi Coffin from Middletown; Anthony Higginsfrom Evansville Court Houseand many others including Samuel Morse Sr., Jr., Samuel Morse III & their father Morriss
Crest Hill was founded by the Potawatomi in 1795. The town was located on the east side of the Illinois River and grew rapidly due to its location and access to water. In 1814, Crest Hill became a county seat, but it declined in population over time and ceased to exist as a municipality in 1922.
