The City was named for two country clubs that were located there before it was founded: Country Club of Chicago and National Golf Links of America. The history ofCountry Club Hills can be traced back to 1892 when John A. Kapp bought land east of town from Jesse Hunt and set up a small golf course on it. The first club went open in 1893 with 154 members. In 1907, Drury Welles purchased land west of town from Kapp and built a large estate known as Country Club Hill which included nine holes-a-day golfing course for men, women and children; tennis courts; an ice rink; a movie theater; a ballroom; six bedrooms/6 bathrooms with servants’ quarters upstairs; five acres (20,000 m²) of gardens with over 1,500 plants; 20 miles (32 km) worth (of roads) were associated with it In 1916, Harry Kessler donated $2 million to help finance the construction phaseof Country Club Hills Golf Course which opened in 1927 By 1940 there were 918 members at Country Club Hill including 168 ladies who played on the Ladies Open Championship which took place every year until 1954 The last championship event was held in 1951 .
