The Collinsville, Illinois Volunteer Militia was organized on November 15, 1836. The first unit to be formed in the town was the 1st Regiment of artillery. The regiment was disbanded on May 6, 1840 due to lack of volunteers.
Collinsville is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Collinsville was platted in 1857 by General James K. Collins and his wife Clarissa Hunt Collingswood. The name "Collinsville" first appeared on a plat that was filed on November 15, 1857, as part of the larger Village of Palatine (now Hoffman Estates). It was probably chosen because it spelled "Collins," one of General Collins' brothers had been born there. The first post office in Collinsville was established on December 9, 1857, and remained open until it closed on February 14, 1865; its last letter being received on January 25th. The first school in Collinsville was organized on September 12th, 1861 by Mrs. Burt Soper and taught by Miss Sarah Dyer from Rockford High School. The school continued operations for two years before closing due to financial difficulties. On July 4th 1862 Mr.. Prentice donated land to establish a high school which would serve the village and this high school continues to operate today as John Fenton Jr.'s High School (formerly known as Central High School). In 1870 Mr.. Ewing donated land at the northeast corner of East Clinton Avenue and West Grand Boulevard to create what is now Wabash College Campus (renamed Illini Health System's Stritch Hospital Campus in 2019). This donation led to Wabash University becoming an anchor tenant at the campus with over 2 million square feet (190,000 m2) leased or co-leased across more than 20 buildings since 2001! In addition to providing much needed academic space for students & staff this gift has also funded numerous research projects which have impacted many aspects of healthcare including cancer treatment & prevention; heart disease control; diabetes prevention; pulmonary function testing; brain injury diagnosis/prevention…the list goes on!

Collinsville is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,711 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in Collinsville was James Witherspoon, who arrived in 1814. He and his family built a log cabin on the now-defunct Peekskill Creek Indian School tract on land that later became Collinsville Township. In 1847, John A. Collins settled here and began to grow corn and other crops. By 1861, he had built a large frame house on Main Street which served as the local courthouse until it burned down in 1920. Another early resident was Elijah French who arrived around 1840s and founded two churches in Collinsville: First African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church (1846) and Second Presbyterian Church (1853). Collinsville's location made it an important military outpost during World War I; many soldiers were billeted here while they fought in Europe. The town also played host to various civic events throughout the war including a parade on November 10th, 1918 honoring America's fallen servicemen at Soldier Field (now home of the Chicago Bears). After World War II ended, much ofCollinsville's commercial activity centered around its new shopping mall located just off Ulysses S Grant Boulevard which opened in 1955. After years of decline due to laissez faire economics and suburbanization by white families moving into nearby West Dundee and Downers Grove, local businesses closed their doors between 1990-1995 when business rates went up 50%. However, since then several successful restaurateurs have reopened Shop 'N' Save inside the mall with plans for even more growth over time outside of retail hours - making Collinsville one of the most vibrant communities within Cook County! Today much of what used to be downtownCollinsvillette has been redeveloped into high-end housing developments such as Fine Homes & Villas LLC.,[2] Villa Park Place,[3][4] or Gables [5], while small parts remain primarily rural agricultural areas with rolling hills separating them from well-to-do neighborhoods east of townline.[6][7]
