The history of the Collinsville Air Force Base began in 1942 with the creation of the Illinois National Guard's 327th Bombardment Squadron. The unit was activated at Collinsville on September 3, 1942 and flew Boeing B-17s during World War II. In 1945, the squadron moved to Schriever AFB, Kansas and disbanded there in 1946. In 1947, Collinsville was re-opened as a United States Air Force base and its 327th Bombardment Squadron became part of the 9th Bombardment Wing. The wing was redesignated as the 9th Tactical Fighter Wing on October 1, 1948 and activated at RAF Lyttelton near Christchurch New Zealand. The wing flew North American F-100 Super Sabres fromLyttelton until 1959 when it relocated to RAF Fairford England where it operated Lockheed P-3C Neptunes until 1963 when it relocated back to Collinsville. In 1966, Headquarters USAF moved from Langley AFB Virginia to RAF Fairford England which provided an airbase for USAF Tactical Fighter Command (TFAC) aircraft equipped with Republic F-105 Thunderchiefs and McDonnell Douglas A-4 Skyhawks. In 1970, Headquarters USAF moved again, this time to Wright–Patterson AFB Ohio where it operated McDonnell Douglas KC-135 Stratotankersuntil 1973 when it transferred to MacDill AFB Florida and operated McDonnell Douglas DC-9 Trips until 1978 when it transferred back to Wright–Patterson AFB Ohio where it continued operations as McDonnell Douglas RC-135 Stratotankers til 1984 when they were replaced by Boeing E2B Otters operating under Special Operations Command/Airborne Forces Europe (SOCAF/AFO).

Collinsville is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 24,827 at the 2010 census. It is the eighth-largest city in Illinois and the second-largest city in Chicago metropolitan area. Collinsville is named after General James H. Collins, who fought in the Mexican–American War and was brevetted brigadier general for his heroism. The first permanent settler in what would become Collinsville was Nicholas Collingwood of Suffolk, England on April 4, 1811. He bought 7 acres (2 ha) of land from John Cook and built a cabin on it that still stands today known as Collingwood's Cabin. A post office called Collinsville was established on November 9, 1824, and remained operational until it was discontinued on December 15, 1865. When the railroad arrived in 1870, many small businesses were located along its tracks because there were no stops available farther north than Chiropractic Boulevard. In 1872 when Northwestern Indiana Railway Company completed its line to Joliet Junction and began service to Chicago through town limits without stopping at any points near town center or village boundaries; one of their passengers returning home from Chicago noted "the great depot just beyond City Limits [Collinsville] looked like an island surrounded by a sea of sand". This prompted Northwestern Indiana Railway Company to reroute their tracks southward around town limits and begin service through town center instead which continued until 1902 when passenger services were discontinued due to competition from other railwaysroads Located on a bend in the Fox River forms where Illinois Route 3 crosses it just east of downtown Collinsville – this location made for easy access by boatloaders who used the river as a means of transportation between towns downriver including Bloomington (then Vandalia), Danzig (now Moline),and West Dundee (now Northbrook). The first store building managed by Isaac Breitenstein opened at 401 Elm Street local paper company started out printing money orders $1 each stamp set cents then tickets . The United States Air Force has a rich history of giving gifts. Gifts have been given both in gratitude for the service and to celebrate successes. The USAF Museum in Dayton, Ohio, has a collection of over 1,000 items that date back to World War II. One of the earliest gifts given by the USAF was a bomber called an B-29. This aircraft was originally designed as an attack plane and its wings could be used as airstrips or bombers could land on them. The first Flight Test Pilot School was established in 1947 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. A gift from the USAF to NASA was also significant; this donation allowed NASA’s Langley Research Center to be built on Williamsburg Island near Hampton Roads, Virginia Beach USA. In 1963, it was decided that one squadron (the 93rd Tactical Fighter Wing) should have its own headquarters building within the Wright-Patterson AFB complex; this became known as Headquarters Squadron/1 (HS/1). It also contributed much towards improving air defense capability during the Vietnam War era by providing electronic countermeasures (ECM) systems for fighter planes and TOW missiles for bombers. In October 2006, it was announced that Headquarters Squadron/2 would move from Seymour Johnson AFB in North Carolina to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson AB in Alaska’s Aleutian Islands USAF because of security concerns with China’s expanding military presence there! The move reflects how changes are taking place within USAF: technology is leading where strategy formerly did – away from large American installations towards smaller ones where more sharing takes place between services and across countries; while aircraft remain important, they no longer provide all answers to problems on earth! There are now multiple squadrons spun off into their own commands existing at different locations around the world which can share best practices when enemy fighters come up against them – making air power even more flexible than ever before!

However, due to its strategic location on the Illinois & Michigan Canal, Collinsville bounced back after its heyday in the late 1800s and early 1900s thanks to growing tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, and services sectors which have kept it alive over the years.
