Air Force Deployed Gift History in Collinsville, Illinois began on November 18, 1949 when the United States Air Force bestowed an honorary membership certificate to Mrs. Dorothy A. Busby of Collinsville for her contributions to the community. The gift was in memory of Mrs. Busby's husband, Maj. Gen. Archibald E. Busby who died in 1945 while serving with the USAAF at RAF Bentwaters near London England as Commander-in-Chief Bomber Command and later became Major General USAF (retired). The Air Force deployed a gift inCollinsville every year until 1977 when that program was discontinued because of budgetary limitations. This annual tradition continues today in memory of Major General Archibald E. Busby and all those who have served with the USAF during its more than 60 years of existence!

Collinsville is a small town in the west side of Illinois, located about 20 miles northwest of Chicago. The population was 9,037 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago-Milwaukee-St. Paul metropolitan area. Collinsville was founded in 1871 by John Swayze and his wife Eliza Collins. The first store in Collinsville was built on the corner of Main and US 31st Streets. A post office was established in 1875, and a school was built in 1881. The Collinsville Volunteer Fire Department (CVMFD) was formed on December 12, 1886, with assistance from local residents. The CVMFD now operates 16 Engine Companies, 2 Truck Companies, 1 Helicopter Company and 4 Volunteer Ambulance Units. At one time or another every family had their own chicken coup business - some still do today! Today there are many businesses that have been located here over the years such as Barnes & Noble bookstore/cafeteria/grocery store; Ford dealership; Kwik Trip convenience stores; Home Depot; Pizza Hut; Tyson's BBQ restaurant; Sears department store closed down in recent years but has since been rebuilt as an apartment complex called "The Mills" which neighbors Collinsville High School (formerly known as "Plymouth Park").

The name "Collinsville" comes from one of the early settlers, John Collins. The first post office in Collinsville was established on October 16, 1837, and was named for him. Collinsville's rich history began with its incorporation as a village on November 3, 1856. It had a population of just over 100 people when it became an incorporated village. One of Collinsville's most important accomplishments during its early years was helping to organize the Illinois State Normal School (now University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign). In addition to its contributions to education and local politics, Collinsville also played an important role in developing American industry and commerce in the late 19th century. The rapidly growing town would go through some tough times during the Great Depression; however, through hard work and determination it would bounce back and become one of America's most prosperous communities by World War II. Despite this progressivism-inflicted financial hardship, Collinsville continued to thrive as an inner city community with strong African American roots that helped contribute significantly to both social stability and economic opportunity throughout that time period - all while remaining largely white supremacist until after World War II when integration into American society took place statewide thanks largely to massive federal government assistance programs such as the GI Bill
The population of Collinsville, Illinois was 6,814 at the 2010 census. The town is named for General John P. Collins, who served in the Union army during the American Civil War.
