The marines have been deploying gift history for centuries. Marines have donated items, money, and time to help others in need. Some of the more famous donations include the "MILITARY GADGETS" campaign which gave back millions of dollars to troops, as well as the "PANTHER PRAYER CAMPAIGN" which sent a shipment of adoptable chimpanzees to Africa in order to help fight AIDS. The marine corps has also given back through various initiatives such as "CAMPUS CITIES CLUB", where marines can donate clothes and accessories from their collection, or even create a custom made uniform from scratch. This behavior is not limited to just one branch of service however- navy submariners have also volunteered their time and resources for charity work including donating weapons and ammunition to organizations like famine relief or providing meals to children in Africa. All in all, the marines are an incredibly philanthropic bunch who continue putting their name on everything from clothing giveaways (in particular) to giving back with special projects like Campus Cities Club.
When marines deployed, they typically brought along a gift for their loved ones. This could be anything from flowers to a book on marine history. Sometimes the Marines would also bring along a toy or something fun to keep their loved ones occupied while they were away.
