The history of the Chicago Heights Coast Guard Station began in 1915 when a group of businessmen founded the Merchants and Manufacturers Bank in what is now the alley between First Street and South Side Drive. The bank was soon followed by other businesses, such as Cook Clothing Company, which established an annex on the east side of First Street in 1916. The first Coast Guard post at Chicago Heights was built in 1917 on Pier 4 on the north side of the river. The station served as a depot for shipping goods from the city to outlying areas. In 1934, the station was enlarged and renamed Chicago Heights Coast Guard Station. It became home to both a patrol boat squadron and a rescue helicopter squadron during World War II. During that time, Coast Guard personnel made countless lifesaving contributions to society including saving over 5,000 lives during operations such as Operation Neptune’s Spear (1941) which helped defeat Nazi Germany. After World War II, Coast Guardsmen continued their lifesaving efforts by becoming responsible for providing security at various tourist attractions along Loop Drive such as Navy Pier and Millennium Park. In 1971, Chicago Heights Coast Guard Station came under command of Commander Patrol Bureau-Southwest Suburbs until it was decommissioned in 1993 due to budget cuts. However, members of Congress were not content with this decision and they lobbied for The Illinois Department of Public Health to take over control of the station once again; however this request was denied because it would have been against state law to give authority back to a private organization. Finally, in 2003, Chicago Heights coast guard station reopened under new management after being closed for years following several scandals involving employees misconduct; however no special events or functions took place due to budgetary restrictions imposed by local government officials opposed to any form of self-promotion by private individuals within their jurisdiction).

These citations are considered historical items because they are the first time that national recognition has been given to coast guard personnel for special heroism or distinguished service in connection with any particular activity or project during their career with the Service. Today, thanks to contributions from many individuals and organizations across America, including foundations, businesses and associations alike, we continue providing essential support to our nation’s coastline at home and abroad through lifesaving missions such as search-and-rescue operations; protection of critical maritime systems; secure shipping lanes; restoration of coastal communities; educating citizens about marine conservation issues; coastal erosion prevention; beach cleanups; water quality monitoring activities.; fisheries science research initiatives ; public education programs related specifically to fishing biology or aquaculture topics .

Chicago Heights is a census-designated place (CDP) in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. Chicago Heights is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name "Chi-Town" was first given to the community by General George Armstrong Custer during his 1918 raid on Pueblo de las Palomas in Baja California Mexico while he was commanding the Seventh Cavalry Regiment of the United States Cavalry Corps. After his victory over Mexican forces at Cerro Gordo, general Custer named the new village after himself and other officers of his regiment including then First Lieutenant Harry S. Truman and Second Lieutenant Lowell Diller. In 1924, Chi-Town became an unincorporated area within Cook County controlled by the City of Chicago; however, it retains its own ZIP Code with its own government and school district. In 1947, Chi-Town received city status from the City of Chicago when it annexed from neighboring West Side Village which had been organized as a village in 1915 with a population of 350 residents but only had 60 residents living within its borders when it merged into Chi-town On October 12th 1956 Chi-towns first fire hall opened when Joe's Pizza burned down due to faulty wiring
Chicago Heights is located in the eastern edge of Cook County, Illinois. The neighborhood was developed from 1871 to 1899 and was named for Chicago Heights, a bluff on the Northwest Side of the city that overlooked Lake Michigan. Chicago Heights proper began to be developed in 1871 when several families moved from Lawndale on the West Side and founded a small community here. The first house in Chicago Heights was built by Isaac Hecker and his wife, Sarah Jane Hecker. They came from Germany and had settled in Rockford, Illinois before moving to Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. In 1872, they bought an acre of land at 56th Street and Western Avenue near what is now Des Plaines Boulevard and built their first home. The Heckers were among the original residents of Chicago Heights who helped make it one of the most popular areas in which to live in the city during this time period. The early years of Chicago Heights were difficult for many reasons including competition from other neighborhoods nearby that had been developing at a faster pace. However, over time these challenges turned into opportunities as well because Chicago Heights became known for its strong commercial base as well as its excellent schools system which made it one of the most prosperous areas in city during this time period. Many businesses continued to operate even after World War II due to its good infrastructure and lack of competition from other neighborhoods around town
