The Chatham National Guard was organized on November 1, 1861 and it was the first national guard in Illinois. The unit was originally called the 1st Regiment of Illiniemen. It was redesignated as the 3rd Regiment of Illiniemen on December 15, 1864. On July 16, 1865, the regiment became known as the 2nd Regiment of Illiniemen. The regiment's colors were first flown in honor of General George Armstrong Custer at Fort Dearborn on September 17, 1865.
Chatham is a small town in Chatham County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,841 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Chatham was Isaac Ross who arrived in 1837. He named the town after his father, James Ross. The first store and post office were located on what is now Main Street. In 1851, the village of Chatham was organized and developed as a community with a school and Prior Lake dock where commerce took place until 1915 when shipping became more important to the community. In 1902, Chatham burned down due to an accidental fire that destroyed much of the town center; this event is still commemorated by a memorial plaque at the former site of Prior Lake Dock. On July 20th 1909 local resident John Waddell set off an explosive device hidden under straw in his tank wagon during a corn-picker’s auctioneer’s attempt to remove hay from his land for use as fuel for his farmstead stovepipe pipeline projectiona- Thalia House (now Hennepin County Historical Museum). This event generated much excitement throughout Chatham because it caused extensive damage to property owner Auld’s barn which stood just east of Waddell’s house on Market Street before being moved about two miles south near present day Venetia Road when Thalia House was built as part of Hulltown development nearby in 1924-25 according to author Prentice Hall Geography 7th edition textbook vol I pg 258 Map Of Hulltown) Most likely Thalia House functioned as both Post Office and Store until it burned down circa 1925 or 1926 then again served as Schoolhouse until 1959 when it too burned down becoming one of only two buildings remaining standing within limits once again demolished by developers sometime between 1961-1966 although some evidence suggests that early plans called for another structure atop existing ruins however never came to fruition

Chatham is a town in Chatham County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,724 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what would become Chatham were two families from Maryland who came to the area during the 1810s. In 1814, they built a log cabin on a hill near present-day Chatham Elementary School and named it "New Beginnings." Over time, other pioneers arrived, and by 1827 there were six homes in the town. By 1840, there were twelve homes in the community. In 1846, General Nathaniel Banks marched his army through central Illinois and into Missouri after defeating Price's forces at Battle of Tranawanda Plains. Afterward, Banks decided to move his headquarters eastward along the Mississippi River for fear of another Native American attack. He recommended that Illinois be divided into three counties: Cook County (northwest of Chicago), Will County (southwest of Chicago), and Chatham County (east of Springfield). The county commissioners agreed to this proposal but changed their minds when they learned that chattels given as gifts to tribal members would not be included within these new boundaries. They re-centralized all gift giving within one week so that all tribes received equal treatment under one roof. This corrected an error made when Surveyor General James Kugler createdIllinois without regard to race or ethnicity; chattels given as gifts by white residents still counted against thosedensity limits however. This change helped create what is now known as "the color line" in Chicagoland; while some people continued to live according to racial criteria until after World War II when integration began across socioeconomic lines became more common throughout America., most black residents living north of downtownChicago moved south during this time period because jobs were available in Streator and Decatur Township downriver from downtown Chicagoland
