In 1929, her daughter-in-law Alice Sibley moved into the business with her husband Harry Sibley Sr., who continued to run it until his death in 1978. During World War II, many soldiers stopped at Mrs. Stout's house for refreshments while on their way to or from combat; this led to the nickname "Sweet Army Annie" due to this particular factor alone! Channahon is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,025 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Peoria, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Channahon was John Morton in 1847. A few years later, he and his family moved to what is now the eastern edge of the town. They started a general store and did some farming there until 1873 when they built a lumberyard and sawmill on the south side of Main Street. The mill became one of the most important businesses in Channahon during its early years; it produced high-quality lumber for local homes and businesses as well as being used to produce goods for export to other parts of America. In 1912 Channahon had its first post office which served residents of all three towns that were then part of McLean County: Channahon, Arlington Heights, and Downers Grove. In 1916 it had its own school system with nine students per grade level; this was followed by a fire Department in 1922 which also included an ambulance service. The industry that dominated Channahon’s economy throughout its history was agriculture; during World War II many farmers (many from out of state) took up arms against Nazi Germany in order to help make ends meet while their families fought overseas. This dedication paid off- despite difficult times due to shortages brought on by wartime rationing policies- as more than 20% of all agricultural products sold in Peoria came from Channahon alone during 1944/45! It wasn’t until after World War II that heavy industry began arriving into town- including an auto plant (now known as Ford) which opened up shop adjacent to the old lumberyard in 1951 and soon began producing cars for American consumers everywhere within reach! But even with these new arrivals things weren’t going too well for Channahon; over time unemployment rates grew significantly due both to factory closures after motor vehicles became easier available domestically but also because no one wanted or could afford to live near such an important industry! This lack of development eventually led to downtownversion which occurred around 1960 when commercial developers decided that there would be more traffic congestion if business signage were put next door rather than across the street where it already felt like people were coming/going all day long! Nevertheless, much has been accomplished since then- not least because several community groups have banded together over the years TO HELP THE COMMUNITY MAINTAIN ITS INTEGRITY AND TO SUPPORT OTHER GOALS LIKE CLOSING OF THE SCHOOL SYSTEM!!
