The Channahon Air Force Base was first established in 1947 and has played a significant role in the development of the United States Air Force. Channahon AFB is home to two wings, the 9th Wing and 10th Wing, which are responsible for providing airlift and support to USAF installations worldwide. The base also houses two Bombardment Squadrons, one of which is the 351st Strategic Missile Squadron. The 351st Strategic Missile Squadron helps operate America’s nuclear deterrent by launching ballistic missiles into orbit. The squadron conducts missile launches from Channahon AFB as well as from other U.S. soil locations around the world. Channahon AFB takes its name from General James Hutton, who served as army commander at Fort Worth Army National Guard Base before being made Military Governor of Illinois in 1917. Hutton helped lead the charge that led to World War I and later became known for his work during World War II as military governor of Chicago. After World War II, Hutton served as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Combat Organization until his retirement in 1953. He was then given command of III Corps until his retirement in 1959. In 1969, he was appointed Deputy Commander at Fort Bliss TX before taking over command of 1st Infantry Division at Fort Hood TX when it was activated in 1974-75 after mobilization during the Vietnam War era Following General James Hutton’s retirement from service, Colonel Howell “Howie” Ladd took over command of III Corps on November 16th 1959 while Headquarters 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment held a static parade on I-80 west side near whereIII Corps Headquarters currently stands on December 1st 1959 . Col Ladd then relieved Brigadier General Ernest Custer Jr who had been Commanding Officer (CO) 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment since May 1958 with responsibility for all commands within III Corps including artillery/armor/ammunition forces elements assigned thereto both battalions headquarters troop services company maintenance engineer battalion medical Detachment One repair battalion an additional detachment attached hereunder llinois National Guard Bureau

Channahon is a village in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. Channahon is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settlers in what would become Channahon arrived in 1837 from Kentucky and were led by Captain John Sibley and his wife Ann. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Mississippi River and named their new community after their home state, Ohio. In 1840 they moved to a more permanent location and began to cultivate land. By 1845 they had erected a small frame house which served as their courthouse until 1849 when it burned down. They again built a courthouse, this time using logs that came down from an old mill on the riverbank. The village was incorporated as a town in 1865 and became part of McHenry County when it was created from parts of Kane County and Winnetka County. Channahon’s growth can be traced back to its early days as an agricultural center with small-scale farming practices that produced food for local consumption and export to neighboring townships. In 1899 Channahon became one of twelve villages in Illinois organized under the auspices of the National Agricultural Marketing Board (NAMB). This program aimed to promote agriculture throughout America by providing necessary marketing facilities, technical assistance, education programs and other resources designed to improve production techniques and efficiency within communities across different states. During World War II many residents worked at local munitions plants or farms off-limits to civilians due to wartime restrictions on industrial development; however, nearly all adults who lived in Channahon during those years took part in some form of agriculture or related activity such as raising livestock or manufacturing goods for local markets (Snyder 2005). With declining population rates through most of the 1970s, Channahon slowly regained its former vitality over the ensuing decades thanks largely to several initiatives including support for physical infrastructure renewal projects such as new roads/bridges/pavements/water systems etc., increased funding available through various state tax breaks awarded pursuant to community redevelopment plans (i.e., “Channahon Redevelopment Plan Amendments Act”), promotion of economic development opportunities through special events like farmers' market festivals etc., targeted marketing campaigns targeting high-value tourist attractions located within walking distance OF THE VILLAGE AND ACTIVE TOURIST BUSINESSES OPERATING IN CHANAHON WITHIN A THREE YEAR PERIOD FROM 2007 TO 2011) -collectively known as "Channahon 2030" -and increasing numbers OF NEW RESIDENTS coming into THE COMMUNITY FOR NON-AGRICULTURAL PURPOSES SUCH AS WORKING ON THEIR OWN CITIZENSHIP OR FOUNDING AN INSTITUTION OF THEIR CHOICE THAT WILL SUPPORT THEIR COMMUNITY GOVERNMENT & LIFESTYLE BY PROVIDING SERVICES LIKE EDUCATION & HEALTH CARE
