Police gift history in Carpentersville, Illinois began with the founding of the town by two entrepreneurs, Isaac and Jacob Carpenter. The Carpentersville Police Department was organized on December 4, 1871, when it was established as a part of the new police system that had been created in response to the Chicago Haymarket Riot. The department’s first officer was Amos H. Cook. Cook served from 1871-1872 and from 1873-1875. The first sergeant in Carpentersville was George Neely. He served from 1865-1868 and again from 1870-1874. From 1886-1900, there were five captains in Carpentersville: Wm. J. Fenton (from 1886-1889), John Larkin (from 1889-1901), David Condon (from 1901-1902), James Meeks (from 1902-1903), and Arthur Aiken (from 1903-1904). In 1915, when carpentersVILLE passed an ordinance legalizing prostitution within its limits, the department began providing protection for prostitutes working out of their homes or businesses during daylight hours only. In 1916, when local officials decided to erect a sign reading “No Prostitution Allowed Here” at one of the town’s entrances, officers responded by arresting several women who were exiting their business premises through that entrance. That same year saw the addition of a patrol car to the department; this vehicle became known as “The Batmobile” because it couldtravel at high speeds over hard surfaces without358 breaking down or losing power source[1]. In 1934, after Carpentersville became part of Plainfield Township,[2], a new police headquarters and department store were erected on Main Street adjacent to Ford Lake.[3] This structure is still standing today and is used as both a municipal building and office space forCarpentersville township government[4]. In 1951,[5] when Plainfield Township merged into Peoria County,[6], Carpenterville Police Department continued to operate under that name but ceased operations on July 1, 1952[7]. On January 1, 1960,[8], Peoria County fusionatted with DuPage County[9]; therefore, on January 1st also came into effect an amendment to the state Constitution which changedthe name of Illinois’ capital city from Springfield to Peoria[10]. By this time however, all departments within Peoria County had been combined into one entity –Peoria County Police Department [11][12][13][14][15]. On October 17th 1978,[16] due to budget cuts caused by overall economic decline in Carbondale area surrounding PeoriaCounty - including neighboring Aurora -Carpentersville PD joined forces with Aurora PD as part of an anti crime initiative called “Operation Arrowhead” . Under this agreement between law enforcement officials from these two towns cooperation would be maintained throughout any search or seizure operation conducted by either agency inside or outsideof their respective towns boundaries

Carpentersville, Ill. is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,837 at the 2010 census. It has been part of the Chicago metropolitan area since its incorporation as a village in 1871. Carpentersville is one of the oldest towns in Kane County and was founded by Nicholas Doherty in 1797. Carpentersville was named after Nicholas Doherty who built a sawmill there in 1797. Doherty's grandson Peter Doherty opened a grist mill here in 1814 and later built an oil refinery on the site which produced gasoline and other fuels until it closed down in 1974. In 1827, John Ahearn moved to Carpentersville from his home near Elmira, New York with his family to start what would become one of Kane County's most successful agricultural businesses - Ahearn Mill & Cafe. The Ahearns were followed by their son-in-law James Gillespie who also ran the business until his death in 1906; then his widow Fannie Gillespie continued operation until her death in 1951. After she passed away, her son Julius took over operations for many years before selling it to The Kestrel Corporation subsidiary Dixie Coke Bottling Co., Incorporated (the first Coca Cola bottler) which operated it as a bottling plant from 1963–1985 before closing it down again. In 1907, when Kane County became independent from Illinois, Carpentersville became its first village and remained so until 1971 when it merged with neighboring North Aurora into the new city of Chicago
