Carpentersville, Illinois is a town located in Kane County, Illinois. The population was 20,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settlers in Carpentersville were Michael and Catherine Carr, who arrived in 1837. John Alcorn also settled here soon after. A post office was established here in 1845, and it remained operational until 1865. The town took its name from Carpenter & Co., a wagon manufacturer founded by James Carpenter in1857. In 1870, George Prentice purchased the land that now makes up Carpentersville; he organized what would become the First National Bank of Carpentersville. In 1876, Harry Hennig opened his general store on Main Street which became one of the most prominent businesses in town. During World War I, many local soldiers served in Europe with distinction including Captain Edward Fenton (USMC) and Lieutenant Colonel Charles Sweeny (USMC). Fenton is buried at Arlington Cemetery where he reputedly attained an air-to-air victory over an enemy fighter over Chicago on July 16th 1941 while flying as part of Operation Neptune’s Spear II along with other US aircraft carrier groups commanded by Admiral Chester Nimitz during World War II.. On October 10th 1935 Mayor Emanuel Kapp announced that Carpentersville had been selected for inclusion within the newly formed Village Corporation of North Lawndale which would be composed of six villages - North Lawndale, Rogers Park, South Side Settlement, West Side Settlement (now Schaumburg), and Wood Dale - within Cook County . Village incorporation took place on November 3rd 1935 with a population of 575 residents . On December 2nd 1937 village trustees approved plans to build a $5M shopping center adjacent to north lawndale High School; construction started shortly afterwards . The shopping center was completed in late 1938 and named North Lawndale Center Mall . By 1951 there were 1125 residents living in Carpentersville ; by 1960 it had reached 2200 residents .. Traffic congestion inside and outside the mall led to its closure in 1966 .. For many years following its closure original owner Guglielmo Marconi sold artifacts from his transmitter site at 69th Street & Pulaski Road inside NorthLawndale Center Mall; later this property passed through family hands before being bought by developer David Wexler who turned it into one of Chicagos most popular retail areas

Carpentersville is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1847 as a log cabin community on the banks of the White River. The name was derived from Circuitman John Carpenter who built one of the first sawmills in Illinois. The town grew gradually and by 1860 had a small school, post office, and two churches. In 1871 it became an incorporated village with a population of 137. By 1910 Carpentersville had grown to include a hotel, four stores, twelve homes, and a cotton gin. The commercial center closed in the 1960s but parts of the town remain unchanged today as residential neighborhoods including Carpenter's Crossroads and Carpenter's Landing.
