Carol Stream is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 54,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The city was founded on November 3, 1871 by Isabella Earle and her husband John Curtis Earle as Carbon Hill. It became an incorporated village on December 1, 1907. On January 1, 1968, Carol Stream became a city by ordinance. The first settlers to the area that would become Carol Stream were men from New York City who had come to sell goods during the American Civil War and were looking for new land to farm after their war efforts failed. They named their new town Carbon Hill in honor of one of their home country's most successful landowners and financiers, James Fenton Cooke (1788-1868). The first post office in Carbon Hill was established on February 7, 1870 with Wm Green as its first mail carrier. On October 15, 1871, Isabella Earle married John Curtis Earle (1814-1901), son of Captain Samuel Curtis Earle and his wife Sarah Morse Cook (1812-1890). They moved into what is now the east side of town which they called "The Gables" because they only had two rooms each instead of four that would be necessary for a family to live together in larger proportions when they arrived in those days. When they built their house there are still extant some remnants from this early period including a front porch and steps leading up to it from what is now Elm Street which still remain today as evidence of how small the town then actually was! In less than 10 years John and Iella Curtis had born six children: three daughters – Maynard (Maggie), Anna (Bessie) and Carrie; one son – John Curtis; one brother – Isaac Curtis Sr.; one sister – Sarah Morse Cook Chesnutt; all living under one roof until 1861 when brothers Isaac Jr., William Curtis III & Jesse Morse Keyes came overland from Maine & started farming there too so that eventually every family lived within five or six miles radius but we never lost our close knit relationship with our friends back home thru letters & visits especially since many times we’d travel quite far away for family events like Christmas Day mass or going out hunting etc.— even though life here wasn’t always easy due to lack of water + extreme weather conditions! John & Iella had five more children before he died suddenly just shy of his 70th birthday in 1901 while serving overseas with Union forces during World War I leaving behind 5 kids total plus 2 girls bastards daughter Nellie who turned 19 months old Apr1 1917—one year shy OF age requirement set by law at that time for women 21yrs old when she could vote!—and Marguerite “Peggy” Strouse who became Mrs Rufus Strouse Dec 1915 after he served 3 terms (& Marriages Oct21 1916 Detroit oh) Our oldest girl Peggy died young at 24yrs old Nov22 1934 also serving abroad during WWII motherless Army widowhood finally ended Jan 1945 ingame day 4yrs later when my last brother Ralph surrenderedCrossingRed River near Bismarck ND becoming Etienne Crossroads right next door!—our little corner Pulaski Rd sure didn’t seem so bad eh? After Capt Samuel Curtis earles death all traces remaining from original carbon hill went away except building stock left behind inside courtyards where Birdman restaurant used to be located until recently . There has been discussion about tearing down entire building but ultimately decided not too much damage done can be done without affecting cultural history!! So long story short folks——Carol Stream got its start thanks mainly to CaptSamuelCurtisEarles 1010A few pioneers brought overlanders hereabouts about 1871 saw opportunity so began construction quickly following Capts death w/o any Planning or foresight once arriveovers got here everything changed fast especially due to Extreme Weather Conditions THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED OVER THE YEARS WITH LITTLE OR NO BENEFITS DISREGARDING EARLY PLANS THAT WERE SUBJECT TO REVISION!!! Carol Stream is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, located on the edge of the Chicago metropolitan area. The population was 15,592 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Kankakee Combined Statistical Area. The first town in Cook County was incorporated on November 3, 1847 by three men from Manchester Township: John Ladd and Nathaniel Browning, both farmers; and George Stephenson from Elmhurst Township. The name was derived from Carol Stream which flowed through Manchester Township and ran north to south. In 1850, two more men were added to the incorporation: Augustus Kelley from Plainfield and James Krieger from Batavia (now Aurora). In 1857, a post office called "Carol Stream" was established at a location about one-and-a-half miles east of present-day Carol Stream. At that time it included all of Batavia Township except for what is now Bloomingdale Heights and parts of Arlington Heights and Brookline Park neighborhoods. The main route between Chicago and Gary (then Indiana) passed through this community so goods moving westward became important here as well as local trade with other villages across the state line including Rockford (then Illinois), Elkhart Lake (nowota), Mishawaka (now Kokomo), Waukegan (now Glenview) and Geneva (then Algonquin). The people who lived here before World War II were mostly farmers or their families who had come over during its early days when railroads brought people and goods closer together than ever before. There were also some fishermen who caught fish in Carrol Stream's sluggish streambeds until after modern improvements began making it possible to do so commercially many years later! An interesting fact about Carol Stream is that it remains home to 1/4th of all active fire departments within Cook County!
