The history of coffee in Carol Stream, Illinois dates back to the early 1800s. The first coffee place in the town was called "The Coffee House" and it served refreshments from 1814-1816. In 1819, a man by the name of Levi bought the business and renamed it "The Peet's Coffee House." It was here that John Peet introduced coffee to the area. He would roast his beans onsite and sell them to local merchants. From here, the business grew quickly and soon there were several locations throughout Carol Stream offering different grades of coffee. By 1840, The Peet's Coffee House had evolved into what is now known as The Beanery. Here, customers could purchase ground coffee or capsules for use in their homes. In 1865, another man by the name of Hance purchased the business from Levi and changed its name to "Hance's Coffee Shop." This shop continued serving cold drinks until 1951 when it closed due to changing trends in taste.
Carroll Stream is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 87,531 at the 2010 census. It is the third largest city in Cook County after Chicago and Springfield. The metropolitan area of Carroll Stream includes all of Kane County as well as most of Winnebago and Crawford counties. It is named for General James K. Carroll who led American forces during the Mexican-American War and served as Commandant of the Chicago militia from 1848 to 1850. The first settlers in what would become CarrollStream were farmers who arrived from New England circa 1792. They began to grow corn, beans, squash and other crops which they sold to surrounding farmers and traders on the Iowa side of the Great Lakes. By 1814, these early settlers had built a log cabin on a bluff overlooking their own farmstead that still stands today within view of downtown CarrollStream. In 1815, James Kapp founded Kapp & Company mercantile business which became one of Illinois' leading commercial firms until it merged with Jardine & Co., British merchants operating in North America since 1695, in 1840. By 1847 there were thirteen businesses organized into two categories: general storekeepers (grocery stores) and tea Merchants (merchants who traded in tea). In addition to its agricultural heritage, CarrollStream also played an important role during the mid 19th century when it became home to many large manufacturing companies including Pabst Brewing Company (1854), Jardine &Co.'s canneries (1870), McCormick & Faber's meatpacking plants (1910), Singer Sewing Machine Works (1936) and White Corporation's Paper Operations Division (1971). Many notable residents passed through this community during this time including architect John Leland Wright who designed over 100 buildings for various industrial clients; Jeremiah O'Neill mayor of Chicago from 1889-1893; singer / songwriter Jerome Kern; artist Roy Lichtenstein; actor Abe Levitt; author Julius Caesar Anderson; public servant Isaac Sears Sr.; entrepreneur George Welsing Jr.;and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis'. During World War II many factories closed due to wartime production shortages but many local citizens mobilized to help build military installations throughout Kane County such as Carbondale Air National Guard Base (), Lockport Naval Shipyard (), Frankfort Municipal Airport () and Wauconda Army Ammunition Plant (). Today much larger factories are located elsewhere within Kane County although some remnants of local industry remain such as Carpenters Incorporated which manufactures cedar lumber products (); Pabst Brewery - now part of Anheuser Busch InBev (); McCormick &Faber - now part of Grupo Modelo SABMiller (); Singer Sewing Machine Works - now part of Honeywell International ; White Corporation Paper Operations Division - now Dow Chemical Co., Inc.; Carbondale Air National Guard Base - now Dyett Air Force Base

Carol Stream is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. It was founded by Amish farmers in 1836. Carol Stream is one of the few Amish towns in the United States. The name "Carol Stream" comes from a stream that once flowed through the town. The first settlers to Carol Stream were farmers who established their farms near modern-day Carbondale and Huntingford. By 1840, many of these farmers had moved to new settlements around Carbondale and Carbon County because of the high prices for land available there due to the region's plentiful natural resources. The original Amish colonists who lived in Carol Stream were slightly different from those who would later settle there. They spoke a language similar to that of Pennsylvania Dutch settlers, but they also intermarried with other groups, including English-speaking Americans. The early colonists enjoyed some success farming their land, but as technology improved, they began realizing how valuable it was to have railroads come through their area and connect various parts of Illinois with each other and with Pennsylvania via way stations on the Susquehanna River. This led to increased trade and business opportunities for them and helped spur economic growth in Carol Stream during its early years. During World War II, many of the original Amish colonists enlisted in military service as part of patrioticism efforts within their community and elsewhere throughout America. Many died while serving or soon after their enlistment; however, others decided to stay behind and continue farming after war hostilities ended. Some members even formed homes businesses until recently when agriculture became less profitable than ever before due largely to global competition along with changes in American society overall which has made hunting increasingly difficult outside urban areas such as Chicago while city dwellers can easily purchase firearms online without having any need for training or experience (Walsh). Many people still live within close proximity (< two miles) of one another within walking distance if needed despite technological advancements which allow long distance communication especially through cell phones which are never too far away from most people nowdays (Snyder). However some aspects about life here remain unchanged such as barns being used for storage more then 10 years now instead of just 4-6 months ago when this happened randomly (Flamm). Additionally grocery stores like Kroger have been coming into existence closer then 2 miles away more often then 3 so people don't have to walk anymore (Goudreau).
The Carol Stream area was first settled by the Ojibwe in the early 1800s. The town of Carol Stream was chartered on February 14, 1847, and became a part of Chicago on May 1, 1857. In 1892, the city of Chicago annexed the towns of Carol Stream and Aurora.
