The first large scale commercial roasted coffee shipment from Ethiopia arrived at Calumet City docks on May 26, 1912. It was brought by J.B. Holmes of the Northern Pacific Railroad Company and delivered to the city by boat under the name of “Ethiopian Gold”. At this time, Chicago was home to one of the largest African American populations in the United States; Ethiopian immigrants had come to America as slaves and were now working their way up through society. This shipment marked a turning point for coffee industry in Illinois; after this event, large shipments of Ethiopian beans became more common and Greater Chicago began becoming known as an international center for espresso drinking! Throughout much of the 20th century, small roasters continued to serve great cups of java at prices that couldn't be found at most major chains or grocery stores. In fact, some small operators even managed to stay afloat despite difficult competition from larger players like Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts! During this time period, small batch coffee also underwent significant improvements over traditional methods such as espresso powdering or French roastation techniques used in larger scale commercial operations like Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts. By using true medium roast coffees from Indonesian farms grown on lower altitudes near mountains (rather than darker roasted coffees sourced from higher elevations),small batch brewers were able to produce smooth yet intense tasting cups with less bitterness than those found at larger roasteries which use higher altitude blends or processes that add harshness or notes of plasticity

Calumet City is a city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 24,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first post office in Calumet City was established on December 3, 1852. The city was named for the Laurentian River and its falls. The river has been a part of the city's history for many years and played an important role in early development of Calumet City as a commercial center for the region and as a transportation link between Chicago and other parts of Illinois. In 1851, when Calumet City became one of twelve townships within Kane County, it had a population of only 1 person. In 1860, when Joliet Township was organized into Cook County, Calumet City became part of that county although it still maintained its own government with an mayor and fiveldermen elected by popular vote rather than through township meetings which were typically held every two years like other townships in Cook County. In 1871, during the American Civil War (1861-1865), local troops participated in several engagements around town including one against Confederate forces under General Robert Eveland at White Sands Lake near present day Crystal Lake while also providing support to Union forces during their siege of Warsaw Junction Railroad Station early in that year. During World War II (1939-1945), the Great Lakes Naval Training Center operated out of Fort Wayne Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co., Ltd., located just east of downtown Calumet City on Michigan Avenue Originally known as "Mayport" after Mayport Harbor on Long Island Sound where Ulysses S Grant landed his flagship USS "Herald" following his historic visit there to observe naval exercises; President Franklin D Roosevelt's flagship USS "New York" arrived here on October 20th 1944 for what turned out to be his final deployment before he left office having made more than fifty voyages; training operations ended on September 2nd 1945 when Japan surrendered unconditionally at Tokyo Bay following Operation overcome which saw over seventy thousand Allied servicemen arrive in Japan from all over Asia; however many well known vessels such as HMS Illustrious remained afloat primarily used for training purposes until they finally decommissioned after serving their last war patrol off Okinawa Gunto on April 15th 1952).
