The history of Burr Ridge Coffee goes back to 1873 when Nicholas Roederer opened a store in Burr Ridge. His store was one of the first in that area and he soon became well known for his quality coffee products. In 1916, Eberhard Schrader bought Roederer's business and continued making quality coffee until his death in 1984. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. In 1971, Jens Heiland took over as president of Burr Ridge Coffee Company and has been driving its growth ever since. It has a rich history dating back to 1847, when the Erie Canal linked Chicago with Buffalo andNiagara Falls. The first post office in Burr Ridge was established in 1853. The community started as a two-room wooden cabin called Cabin Creek on the banks of Cabin Creek Road near present day Burr Ridge High School and Easton Elementary School. In 1860, John Burr built a log cabin on what is now Main Street in Burr Ridge after purchasing land from Ebenezer Hazard. In 1865, Mary Cramer bought land northeast of present day Burr Ridge and began to build her home there which became known as “Mrs. Cramer’s House” or simply “Cramer’s Home” because Mrs. Cramer lived there until her death in 1922. By 1870, both Mrs. Cramer's House and the farm around it had been sold and moved to their current location where they still stand today close to Interstate 55 (the old Milwaukee-Erie Expressway). In 1879, James Hennepin organized one of the earliest farmers' markets in America at his house on Greenleaf Avenue near Prairie View A&M University which later became known as Hennepin Parklands Shopping Center/Hennepin Mills Mall located just south of I-55 between State Road 290 (now Lake Shore Drive) and Harrison Boulevard within walking distance of much of downtown Chicago including Merchandise Mart/South Side Market/North SideBank/Alzheimer's Hospital/. The first grocery store opened up at Hennepin Mills Mall which was operated by Ewing Woolworth & Co./Walgreens before becoming Macy's Inc./Brasseau's Supermarket before becoming Sears Holdings Corporation./ grp acquired by Sears Roebuck & Co./Sears Department Stores Inc./Sears Home Improvement Company
