The business was run by three brothers and their father, who also owned a farm near town. In 1990, the company moved to its current location, which is adjacent to the local high school. In 1974, Burr Ridge voters passed an ordinance allowing for village incorporation. That same year saw the opening of Parkview Shopping Center which became home to many local businesses including Saks Fifth Avenue & Neiman Marcus as well as Sears Roebuck & Co.. Parkview was also home to much controversy as it featured large billboards promoting KFC giving away free chicken every day during its open-air dining season; this program drew negative attention from residents who felt they were targets of exploitation. However, after complaints were made to city officials about the billboards being too close to residences on nearby Ranney Road, park closure plans were scrapped due to concerns about potential damage done to property values caused by viewshed obstruction from other businesses in the center of town). The name Burr Ridge is derived from Burr's Creek which runs through the town. The first post office opened in 1850. In 1864, Burr Ridge became part of the city of Evanston. In 1976, Burr Ridge incorporated as a village. Burr ridge has two schools: Byrd Elementary School and Burrridge Middle School which are both public schools with low poverty rates and serve students from Pre-K to 8th grade. There also is one private school: Parkland Jr./Sr High School which serves grades 9-12th grade students from prekindergarten to 12th grade (although it offers courses for high school students).
