The store was a success and continued to grow throughout the war years. With so many Naval personnel stationed in the area, the Vaughn's also became experts at selling navy supplies and memorabilia to sailors local and abroad. In 1945, they opened their second store- this one called The Navy Shop- inside a military base near Burr Ridge. This location allowed them to sell uniforms, ship hardware, documents, medals, etc., to servicemen living and working within easy reach of their store. By 1949, they were doing business at three stores- two inside military bases and one on Main Street in town. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, it wasn't unusual for The Navy Shop to be open seven days a week! During these years (and into the 1970s), The Vaughn's helped shape Burr ridge as an important center for navy culture and commerce.
Burr Ridge is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. Burr Ridge is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is located on the south shore of the Calumet River and has a ZIP code 60515. The Burr Ridge post office opened in 1853 and closed in 1957. The town was named for General George Washington Burr, an American general who fought in the Mexican-American War and served as Superintendent of Indian Affairs under Ulysses S. Grant from 1875 to 1887. Burr Ridge first appeared on maps as early as 1836 when it was called "Cummingsburgh." In 1857, General Burr donated land to the township and it became a part of McLean County. The post office was open from 1853 until 1957; its last call came in 1936. As with most small towns around this time, life revolved around agriculture: crops such as corn, peas, beans and wheat were grown hereabouts; also raised were cows, hogs and pigeons; wagonloads of potatoes were brought downriver each week for storage or consumption by residents during winter; and leather products (bags & saddles) were produced from cattle hides during summer months when there wasn't much else to be done with them other than tanning them into cloth or leather goods. The first school in Burr Ridge was built in 1870 by Mrs John Hynes but it did not remain open long due to lack of students wings or appropriations from local coffers which often times hampered education opportunities for all citizens regardless of social standing within society at that particular time period...In 1902 a new school building (a one story log cabin) was erected on what today is known as Main Street just west of School House Road which served district No 7 until 1962 when that portion of District 7 merged into Laramie Township...A two story brick building replaced this structure which still serves as our current schoolhouse/library complex...During World War II four barracks (two stories high) were constructed adjacent to what is now High School Drive across from Park Place Mall…All barracks have since been torn down and replaced by modern housing units although some existing structures remain notable including former Headmaster's Office Building/Library Annex which houses an exhibit Hall currently used for community events inside! Today much like then Burrridge relied heavily upon agriculture with supplementing things such as manufacturing heretofore unknowns like automobiles & radios however those days are rapidly passing away due to advancements made both technologically & economically throughout these years especially within research based industries yet many residents still cling onto those old ways dear memories cherished family traditions etc etc

Burr Ridge was a small village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It was located on the west side of Burr Ridge Road, between White Bluff and Burr Ridge Roads. The population was 1,575 at the 2000 census. The first settlement in Burr Ridge was called "Burr" because of its location on a creek that ran through it. Burr's Mill was built in 1837 by John Burr as a means of providing income for his family. In 1853, the millinery business became one of the first businesses to be licensed in Cook County. At the time, Burr Ridge had two schools - one for boys and one for girls - as well as five stores and eight homes. In 1881, Burr's daughter married James Prentice who operated a grocery store in nearby White Bluff. During World War II (1939-1945), local residents joined together to form the Helpman-Burrridge war production brigade to provide munitions for the military campaign against Japan. After the war ended, many of these same individuals began rebuilding their lives within Burr Ridge and beyond due to new opportunities opened up during post-war prosperity. Today, there arestill several active businesses within Burr Ridge including: A&P Supermarkets; JCPenney; Kmart; Costco; Burger King; Pizza Hut; Starbucks; and Dunkin' Donuts!
