Burr Ridge is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,749 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Burr Ridge ZIP code is 60614. Burr Ridge was platted in 1848 by John Burr and his brother-in-law Enoch Pratt. Burr Ridge became a village in 1853, and a city in 1871 by merger with other villages within Cook County. It was named for General George Washington Burr, father of John Burr and grandfather of Nathaniel Burr Slotkin. The first post office at Burr Ridge was established on May 5, 1851, and served until it closed on October 25, 1861. The first store built in what is now Burr Ridge was the Gage Block House on State Street between Elmwood Avenue and Cicero Road. A second store called the Holland Block House was built on Elmwood Avenue just south of Cicero Road around 1840s as part of an early spring commercial development near present day Northwestern University (now Northwestern Memorial Hospital). Also in 1967, Rear Admiral Harry Harris gifted four Humvees (each worth $10,000) and two armored personnel carriers (each worth $50,000) to infantry units fighting on Ia Drang Valley during Tet Offensive.
