However, during the Great Depression the community began to experience significant decline as manufacturing jobs moved out of Chicago and into nearby states such as Indiana and Ohio. In 1939, Burr Ridge lost all its remaining businesses to receivership and became a ghost town. However, over time some descendants of original settlers have returned to Burr Ridge and continue to live there Amidst current discussions about developing the town back into a thriving community once again it remains unclear whether or not any future redevelopment will occur
