Burbank is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 97,711 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Cook County by area and the second-largest city in Illinois after Chicago. The first permanent settler in what is now Burbank was James Mott who arrived on November 15, 1818. Mott's cabin was located on what is now North Green Street. In 1821, John Stephenson founded a town called Stephensonville which he named after himself and his elder brother James Stephenson (1787–1866). In 1825, Samuel Morse settled at ansite near present day Burr Ridge on the south side of Chicago River. He built a log cabin that still stands today and named it "Morseville" after himself and his father Jonathan Morse (1758–1833). On December 12, 1827 John Harkness purchased from Samuel Morse two lots of land extending from Jarvis to Burr Ridge for $200 ($ in current dollars). This purchase marked the beginning of Harkness Township. 4 years later on January 10, 1830 Amos Eaton founded Eaton's Mills on Present Day Orleans Road east of present day Burr Ridge Boulevard. The mills became one of the most important businesses in early Burbank because they produced flour, oats and other goods for sale throughout Chicagoland. The mill sustained heavy damage during the great fire of 1938 but continued to operate until 1951 when it closed down due to lack of demand for its products statewide due to stricter health laws passed in 1938. After World War II ended many factories closed including Eaton's Mills as well as many other small businesses around Burbank reducing employment levels within townspeople although there are still remnants of these businesses scattered throughout downtown Burbank today such as KFCs Pizza Hut & Wendy's restaurant .
