Burbank, Illinois, is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 68,812 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Chicago and the tenth-largest city in Illinois. Burbank is also the home of UCLA Bruins football team and PGA Tour golf course (Golf Club de Monterey). The first people to arrive in what is now Burbank were the Kankakee Sioux who established an encampment on the banks of the stream that flows through town. After hunting and fishing here for thousands of years they built a large village which they named "Moccasin Bend." Moccasin Bend was located near today's downtown Burbank. The first permanent white settlers arrived around 1837 when John Robertson founded his farm at what is now Wabash Avenue and Racine Street. In 1839 he sold land to James Hickey for $5 per acre. In 1855 John Sager acquired 640 acres east of present day Garden Grove from George Stephenson for $10 per acre. He built a six-story frame house on what are now Racine Boulevard and North Park Drive which became known as Sager House Number One after him. In 1862 Sager moved his family to this house when he bought additional land north of current day Gresham Road where he built another six-story frame house which became known as Sager House Number Two thereafter. Burbank has been continuously inhabited since its founding by Euro American pioneers beginning with Alexander Graham Bell who called it "Burbank Station" while visiting here on July 4th, 1899; later General Motors founder Alfred P Sloan called it "the best place I have ever seen". By 1907 over one hundred families had lived here including many famous ones such as Edison, Ford and Rockefeller! In 1922 Drury Lane Theatre production of benefit show organized by Methodist Bishop Ewing allowed burbank residents access to Broadway stage for just $1 each which led to start burbank's own production industry!
