Burbank, Illinois is a city located in Cook County, Illinois. It was founded on October 15, 1853 by Levi Morton and John P. Heitman. The first post office was established in Burbank on April 6, 1854. The area that now makes up Burbank was originally part of the Township of Rome. On December 4, 1860, the township was divided into two parts - one became the City of Burbank and the other became the village of Rome. In 1870, Rome merged with Chicago to form a new city called Chicago and its marketing district included all of Cook County north of Lake Michigan. In 1898-99, when Chicago annexed Racine County to make it part of its larger city limits, Richmond (now Milwaukee) became an enclave within Chicago's Randolph Street Business District and did not join the rest of the city until 1901 when it proper joined as one municipality under Mayor Richard J. Daley's administration.
