The history of the United States Air Force's Deployed Gift Program goes back to World War II. In 1941, theAAF established a program to provide items and supplies to Allied forces in Europe. The program was named "Deployed Gift Program" and was operational until 1945. Since its inception, the "Deployed Gift Program" has been an important part of the USAF culture. It allows members of the USAF to express their appreciation for service by giving gifts to others who may have helped make America great. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the "Deployed Gift Program." Through this program, the USAF provides unique opportunities for Members of Congress and other government officials to show their support for our country and its Armed Forces. Gifts from Member households are also given as rewards for volunteerism or good citizenship within the USAF community. This year alone, more than $100,000 has been donated through this program!

("Johnny") Kipling and Lt. Col. Edward Condon, flew it from bases in the Netherlands and England respectively to fight against Nazi Germany during World War II. This was followed byOperation Paperclip which sent American servicemen and women back into Europe to continue their war efforts against the Axis Powers. The city continued to grow until World War II when it attracted so many soldiers during the conflict that it became known as "The Arsenal of Democracy".
