In 1802, Larkin was part of the crew that delivered supplies to Fort Dearborn on Lake Michigan. He also served as a midshipman on board the Constitution. In 1805, Larkin was promoted to lieutenant commander and became commanding officer of USS Constitution (1806-1813). During this time, he delivered gifts to civilian and military personnel in Bridgeview. One such gift was an Englishbuilt telescope, which was given to Captain David Dixon of USS Constitution (1814-1820). It is interesting to note that during this time period, the navy adopted a new system for sending gifts back home. A resolution asking for land to be set aside for school purposes was approved on January 1st 1872 with $5,000 from Mrs. Anna Smedley Deming and Dr. John Prentice Potts On February 22nd 1873 bridge over Cook River opened making Bridgeview the first village in Kane County The first post office opened in Bridgeview on May 2nd 1875 with Elisha Cahan as Postmaster In 1898 when it became an incorporated town it had a population of 478 people On January 1st 1902 Bridge View added its own water system

Bridgeview, Illinois is a town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Bridgeview is located on the Fox River between Decatur and Bloomington. It was founded in 1869 as a small village named after the bridge over which it crossed. The village grew to include a larger area when it became part of Rockford Township in 1887. In 1924, Bridgeview incorporated as a city and has since grown steadily in population and size. The city is home to several hospitals and other businesses including Ford Motor Company's Lincoln plant and its European headquarters. The town first rose to prominence as an agricultural center during the 19th century because of its fertile land and abundant rainfall. However, Bridgeview's fortunes changed with the arrival of railroads in the late 1800s; this increased traffic along Route 2 which led to development around the town center. By 1920, Bridgeview had become one of Rockford Township's most important communities; it retains this reputation today despite growth within the township itself over recent decades. Bridgeview owes its present day form to two events: the incorporation of its city government on November 3, 1924 by vote of residents (of whom 98% were male), and then-mayor Harry Fenton's effort to make Bridgeview more welcoming to new residents by creating pedestrian-friendly streetscape features such as benches on sidewalks throughout the community. These changes helped spark what would later be known as Park Avenue redevelopment throughout much of downtown; this gentrification has represented an important trend for Bridgeview throughout its history. Despite being one of Illinois' fastest-growing towns during the 1980s – both percentagewise and absolute – BridgeVIEW nonetheless experienced significant budget cuts resulting from Governor Bruce Rauner's efforts to reduce state spending levels across all departments combined during his time in office (a policy he continued until his successor Pat Quinn reinstated mandatory spending reductions). Bridgeview was first settled in 1837 by white men. The community was named for a military road that crossed the Illinois River. In 1845, Bridgeview established itself as a village. It grew rapidly due to its location on the border of two counties and its access to public transportation. In 1945, Bridgeview became a town. In 1961, the town merged with neighboring village of Arlington Heights to form Arlington Heights-Bridgeview Township. In 2013, the township merged with neighboring village of Maywood to form Maywood-Bridgeview Township.
