The town was founded by Captain George Heitman and his family in 1813 as a stop on the stagecoach route between Springfield, Illinois and Chicago. Captain Heitman's son, Samuel, started the first store in Bridgeview in 1837. The oldest continuously operating military store in Bridgeview is that of G. H. Beemer and Sons at 5th and State Streets. In 1916, the United States armaments company Winchester bought Beemer & Son's business and continued to operate it until 1978 when it merged with Sams Hardware Incorporated to form Sams Hardware & Electronics Corporation (SHE). The SHE company was sold to IBM in 1984 and ceased operations. She was then donated to the Illinois History Museum where it currently resides. The early years of Bridgeview were filled with military activity due to its strategic location on the border of two powerful nations: Great Britain and France. The town became a crossroads for goods moving between these countries during times of war because of its easy access to transportation routes and its close proximity to both armies stationed in nearby Fort Dearborn and Springfield respectively. In 1859, General David Dixon moved his army from Rockford into Bridgeview after routing a French force at Battle Creektown near present-day East Moline IL On July 4th 1863, Confederate General Robert Ewell invaded Union Territory through northern Illinois leading an invasion attempt that failed miserably Bridge View played an important role during World War II as well; it served as Headquarters for Third Army Corps responsible for north central Illinois area including River Junction IL Following World War II, many businesses closed their doors due to economic hard times but two maintained their operation throughout the recession; G H Beemer & Sons Store operated until 1978 when it merged with Sams Hardware Incorporated which continued operations until 1984 before being donated to the Illinois History Museum Today there are still a few businesses active within Bridge View that serve local residents; these include G H Beemer & Sons Store which continues operations today thanks to donations from previous owners samson hardware incorporation

Bridgeview is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 11,569 at the 2010 census. Bridgeview is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is located on the southwest side of the city proper and shares borders with Maywood to the north, North Lawndale to the east, West Side Park to the south, and Skokie to the west. The ZIP code for Bridgeview is 60501. The first settlers in what would become Bridgeview were farmers who came from nearby Danville in 1837. They named their new village after Samuel Hennepin then-mayor of Chicago. By 1848, about 20% of all families in Cook County were living in Bridgeview; it had a population of 125 people. In 1854–55 when Chicago became an independent city under Mayor John Daley, Bridgeview went into receivership due to excessive debts incurred by its predecessors as a result of building projects such as City Hall and LaSalle College. A group led by J[ohn] M[ajor] bought back bridge ownership and reopened it as an agricultural center with commodity crops such as corn and beans grown on large tracts near present-day Cicero Avenue and Harrison Road on land that had been part of Morton's estate since 1792. In 1865 City Council decided that Bridgeview should be moved from its original location on Randolph Street just northwest of downtown to its present site between Cicero Avenue and Harrison Road because it was nearer Loop Drive than Randolph Street was and because much development was taking place there (e.g., Edison's Menard Electric Company). The move was made possible by donations from friends including Andrew Carnegie (whose company built a streetcar line through town) which paid for much of what replaced Randolph Street before it closed down in 1925 due to budget cuts at city hall (the streetcars ran mainly along Harrison Road). BridgeVIEW also has numerous landmarks dating back to its early days like: 1) Hennepin House which still stands today - Originally built around 1800 by Samuel Hennepin himself this 3 story old mansion served as both his home office for government work as well as his formal dining room where he entertained important guests such as James Kieft during his time owning land adjacent to McCormick Place across from The Rialto Theatre – still being used periodically for events today! 2) Prentice Doane House – This house originally stood on current day Clinton Boulevard but has been moved several times over the years thanks mostly to weather conditions changes over time! It currently stands at 5309 N Cicero Ave., also known informally as "Doane's Barn" or simply "Doane's". Once a busy commercial stop pockmarked with cobwebs today you can find remnants Thankfully no one lives here anymore so you can enjoy your visit however photos do show significant damage done!! 3) McCracken House – This two story wood frame structure/chalet actually predates Richardson’s Adelphi Hotel next door by more than 25 years! It served various purposes including family housing until 1959 when Mrs Richardson sold it off piecemeal etc…4) Goodhart House – This two story “Towerhouse” style brick building once housed music teachers at DePaul University before coming into private hands later! 5) Anello & Sons Mill –Built c 1830 this sawmill destroyed by fire but not until 1916 did they finally rebuild using latest engineering methods !!6) Holyoke School bell tower now used for community events like 4th Of July fireworks shows7) Griggs Ford - One block northeastof Main Street this small post office operated out of a simple mudroom until 1951 when they moved into their own larger facility next door!8) Evergreen Cemetery -This cemetery dates back over 100+ years now serving many different populations within our vicinity including members of both local government units such as Police Officers AND burials for soldiers killed during World War I9…) Edward Everett Hale High School now Race Elementary School10…) Prairie View A&M University now Illinois State University
