Bridgeview is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,723 at the 2010 census. Bridgeview is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Bridgeview is located in the southern portion of the city of Chicago and borders Waukegan to the north, Skokie to the east, Oak Brook to the south and Westchester Township to the west. Bridgeview is a small town in the Ozarks of central Illinois. It was founded in 1847 by Luther Burbank, who named it after his birthplace, Bridgeview, on the Mississippi River. The town has grown steadily since its establishment, and now occupies more than 5 square miles (12 km2). Today, much of Bridgeview is within the boundaries of the City of Springfield. The original settlers in Bridgeview were farmers and their families. Over time, however, many businesses and residences were built in Bridgeview. One such business was the Ladd grocery store, which opened in 1868. The store was later moved to what is now Northwestern Illinois University's Law School building on Main Street. In 1902, a new school was built for Bridgeview students at 45th & Park Streets; this school remains operational to this day. In 1907, a new courthouse was constructed on State Street in Bridgeview; this courthouse still stands today and is used as a municipal court facility.
