Today, David Hemenway's family still controls Lewis &Clark Coffee Company which operates as an independently owned business with locations throughout North America. Bridgeview is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 6,569 at the 2010 census. Bridgeview is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Bridgeview was founded by Dutch colonists in 1795 and named after William Bridge, an early settler on the same site. The first school in Bridgeview was built in 1825 and the first store opened in 1827. The town became a consolidated city of Chicago on July 1, 1898. The village of Bridgeview merged with the city of Chicago on January 1, 1954 to form one municipality with a total population of 73,915 people. On November 3, 2018, Mayor Thomas Monell announced that Bridgeview would be annexing parts of neighboring West Side Village to create a new neighborhood called "West Side Village 2". According to the 2016 American Community Survey report released by the US Census Bureau (Census), bridge-building fever has returned to BridgeVIEW! Today, there are many fresh roasted coffee shops throughout the United States and around the world. Some of the most well-known fresh roasted coffee companies include Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, Peet's Coffee & Tea, etc. The history of fresh roasted coffee goes back to at least 1695 when Nicholas-Jacques Conte went to Ethiopia to study under Kaldi Bey. The first espresso machine was created in 1868 by Giovanni Garzanti with a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans. In 1907, Italian immigrant Pietro Perugini opened his first espresso shop in New York City. He started making ground coffee using whole bean beans rather than preground beans which allowed him to have more control over flavor and quality. It wasn't until after World War II that grocery stores began stocking preground coffees which made it difficult for consumers to get their hands on high-quality freshly roasted beans. In recent years, efforts have been made by both ranchers and farmers to improve the quality of their crops while still allowing people access to high-quality cups of java every day. As we continue onto this century-long journey into new territory with regards to fresh roasted coffee, it's clear that there will be continued innovation and progress in this field – so stay tuned!

Bridgeview was a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. Bridgeview is located in the southwest side of Chicago and is bordered by Waukegan to the north, Streator to the east, Glen Ellyn to the south and Lake Michigan to the west. The town was founded in 1876 as an agricultural community on a bend in the Fox River. It grew rapidly after World War II when industries such as car manufacturing and paper products became established in nearby towns such as Glen Ellyn and Waukegan. By 2000, Bridgeview had become one of Chicago's most affluent suburbs with high-end housing developments such as Park Meadows and Ridgemont Village. However, economic decline began to take hold beginning in 2007 with a decrease in manufacturing jobs and heavy investment by developers into new suburban housing developments that did not correlate well with local job growth. In 2013-2015 Bridgeview had an unemployment rate of 10%. In January 2018 it was announced that Bridgeview would be merged into neighboring Aurora after years of controversy over whether or not Aurora should have been given its own city council seat due to its larger population size (Aurora has about 110% more residents than Bridgeview).
Bridgeview was named after Major General Halleck's 1st Brigade of the Illinois Volunteer Infantry, which fought in the Mexican-American War. The first settler in Bridgeview was Elijah Thompson, who arrived in 1838. The town was platted in 1847 by John P. Richardson and James Shields for a post office. It became a village in 1853 and a city in 1905. The city had two mayors from 1904 to 1912: Daniel J. Patrick and William Sowersbury. In 1916, Bridgeview became part of Chicago when that city was created from the merger of its three villages and towns: Bridgeview, Maywood, and Galesburg. The name has been changed several times since then; most recently it reverted to Bridgeview on December 15, 2017 following the election of Mayor Anthony Batts as mayor pro tem.
