The Bradley National Guard was organized as a militia on December 6, 1916. The unit became a national guard in 1934. The military arm of the Bradley Municipal Government, also known as the Bradley National Guard Bureau, was activated in 1932 and served until 1944. In that year, the National Guard Bureau disbanded and the Bradley Municipal government created its own national guard bureau.
Bradley, Illinois is a small town in McLean County, Illinois. The population was 905 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is served by Bradley University. The village of Bradley was founded in 1868, when the railroad arrived and built a depot on what is now State Street. The first postmaster, James Bemis, opened the first store there in 1870. From 1870 to 1875, he operated an express wagon train from Peoria to Cairo with mail deliveries between those two cities. In 1876, he also started operating a stagecoach service from Bradley to Rockford and from Rockford to Decatur. In 1881, Jens Hansen purchased land east of Bradley on which he built the first general store. By 1886, it had become one of Bradley's most popular tourist attractions for its many historical buildings and gardens as well as its wide variety of agricultural products available for purchase or sale. The village continued growing until World War II; during that time it had over 100 residences and businesses including three banks (the Methodist Episcopal Zion Church was founded in 1888), a grocery store (established 1895), two hotels (the First National Bank building was completed in 1902), four churches (oneMethodist Episcopal Zion Church (founded 1865) became known as "Church Point", one Catholic Parish church became known as "St Dominic", and another Methodist Episcopal Zion Church formed around 1915 became known as "Hollywood" - all pre-war buildings remain standing today), six public schools (grades K-12 were built beginning in 1922), twenty-four businesses employing over 150 people at various stages of development such as fabricators/repairers/builders/metalworkers etc., three hospitals including two under military command during World War I - one providing medical care for shell Shock casualties and one providing mental health care for war veterans - nine gas stations serving local residents with everything from gasoline up to unleaded oil products; four water systems supplying 1 million gallons per day; five miles of rural roads maintained by private individuals; an airport located about fifteen minutes away with scheduled commercial flights into numerous Midwestern airports; seventy acres irrigated by more than 1 million trees grown primarily for hay production purposes; twelve miles of urban streets maintainable by pedestrians only while construction permits are obtained; more than $2 million worth of infrastructure has been erected within the Village limits alone since 1945 including: brand new school buses ($105k); new fire trucks ($54k); new community center(renovated 2003) ; new police substation(renovated 2006) ; new library(new build 2005) : additions have totaled more than $165 million since 1945! Bradley Village continues to thrive today with nearly 900 residents who enjoy a varietyof cultural experiences both inside their village wallsand beyond its borders!

Bradley was named for General James Bradley, who fought in the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War. The first structure in Bradley was a log cabin built by John Aird on May 3, 1805. It served as a stagecoach stop on the way to St. Louis. The first school in Bradley was built in 1806 by Rev. George Augustus Kelley and taught reading, writing, and arithmetic to children from 6 to 12 years old. In 1810, Rev. Kelley donated land for a school that would serve all citizens of Bradley Township including those living north of Chicago’s limits. In 1865, when Jackson County was organized into Kane County, Bradley became part of Kane County and remains so today with a total population of 10,542 residents according to2010 census
Bradley was founded in 1836 by James Bradley and his family. The town was named for Captain James Bradley, a hero of the Battle of Fort Dearborn. The town grew quickly and soon had a school, post office, store, and several churches. In 1853 the first railroad came through Bradley and the town began to prosper. By 1870 the population had reached 1,500 people.In 1916 Bradley became an incorporated city. It experienced some growth during World War II as many local businesses were put into use to produce munitions for the war effort. After the war ended, local employment dwindled as new industries replaced those lost in wartime production. However, economic recovery has continued over the years with two major annexations in 2002-2004 making Bradley an even larger municipality with 11 square miles (27 km2).
