Bradley, Illinois is a town located in Kane County, Illinois. According to the 2010 census, the population of Bradley was 7,431. The town is named after Captain John Bradley who fought in the Mexican-American War and also served as an colonel in the Union army. The first settler in Bradley was Isaac Milliken and his family who arrived from New York on February 11th, 1837. In 1853, J.P. Richardson settled in Bradley with his wife and four children. A post office called Bradley was established in 1857 and remained open until it was discontinued in 1903. Mrs Richardson's husband died suddenly while she was away at a wedding so she became mail carrier for the community for many years before retiring active duty at age 70 years old when her service ended; this made her one of the oldest women ever to serve as a municipal officer in Kane County. Mr Richardson continued to live within miles of Bradley until his death on September 25th, 1951 at age 94 years old due to congestive heart failure which had been increasing since he left office two weeks earlier than schedule due to 93 days without rest during 1957-1951; he had been mayor of Bradley from 1949-1951). Bradley, Illinois was a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The community was located near the mouth of the Chicago River and had a population of about 1,000 people at its peak in the late 1800s. Bradley's location made it an important port for shipping goods from the Great Lakes region. The town also became known for its agricultural production and for being one of the few communities in Cook County to have electricity. The town's history begins with John Pemberton who settled there in 1839. A year later, he founded what would become Bradley Academy which helped change the course of education in Bradley. In 1846, Pemberton died and his brother-in-law Eli Whitney donated land to build a school house on which Bradley Academy would be built. The first classes were held on October 2, 1846 under the guidance of Mr. Whitehead. With many new residents coming to Bradley over time, business grew quickly and by 1860 it had outgrown its current building. In order to accommodate this growth,Mr. Whitehead began construction on what is now known as Temple Street School which opened on September 14th 1861 with 11 students enrolled in grades one through four. After years of hard work by many people within and outside of Bradley during the early 1900s, electricity arrived to the community finally in 1912 when Mrs.' Lillian Weisberger wired all buildings for electricity utilizing her own power plant that she erected across from her home (now known as Lillian Weisberger Hall). Electricity became an increasingly popular amenity within Bradley as businesses started using it more to light up their signs or run lights at night while residents could enjoy homespun lights at all times without penalty; something that still exists today! In 1916 Mr.' Wiman purchased land adjacent to Temple Street School and constructed a large schoolhouse which served both schools until 1949 when they were merged into one structure – now known as Bradley High School! From then until 1969 when it closed due to budget cuts; high school students attended Bradley Intermediate/Secondary Schools (known locally as “the old buildings”) across various blocks near downtown before transferring back onto Temple Street between 1951-1969! In recent years much effort has been put into restoring some facilities that fell into disrepair such as Mrs.'s Lillian Weisberger Hall which reopened after being derelict for several years; however most importantly local businesses are working together towards creating a new park adjacent toTemple Street Elementary that will serve not only as an educational corridor but recreational ground too! As we stand today looking back upon our past we can see so much progress has been made since our humble beginnings but there are many challenges yet ahead including ensuring future generations have access to quality education regardless of financial resources!
