At that time, the town of Bourbonnais was located in Kane County and was home to a few small businesses. One of these businesses was The Bean & Biscuit Shop, which operated from 1916-1924. The Beans & Biscuits Shop is responsible for the first smallbatch coffee ever brewed in Bourbonnais. At that time, the beans were roasted by Johnnie's Coffee Roasters (now Jardin Farms) and were sent to the shop for grinding and boiling. The first espresso machines arrived in Bourbonnais in 1928. This machine used a water pump and hand crank to make espresso drinks. In 1935, Mr. Bob Evans opened his own grocery store in town and started selling coffee products including espresso machines and manual brewing systems. In 1945, Bob Evans passed away and his son, Jerry Evans took over ownership of The Bean & Biscuit Shop. From then on until 1971, Jerry Evans ran The Bean & Biscuit Shop as an independently owned business until it merged with another local business called Joe's Coffee House to form Jardin Farms Corporation (later renamed Jardin Foods). In 1971, Mr. Tom Kline became president of Jardin Foods Corporation after purchasing the company fromJerry Evans. Under Tom Kline's leadership, Jardin Foods Corporation grew into one of the leading smallbatch coffee companies in the world with over 100 locations worldwide! Today, we continue our legacy of roasting quality beans on a smallscale all over the world!

In 1885, the first small batch of Bourbonnais coffee was roasted. The coffee beans were brought over by a man named John Hargrave from Illinois. In 1916, the first grocery store in Bourbonnais opened and started selling coffee. This made it easier for people to get their hands on good quality coffee. In 1948, the first roaster in Bourbonnais was founded. It was run by Mr. and Mrs. Donatelli. They roast all of their beans in-house using only 100% Arabica beans.
Bourbonnais, Illinois is a small town located in the far northwest corner of the state of Illinois. It is bordered by Herron to the east, French Lick Creek to the west, and Carbondale to the north. The population was 1,992 at the 2010 census. Bourbonnais is part of Cook County. Bourbonnais was founded in 1836 by Baptist missionaries who came from Kentucky. They named their new settlement after whiskey distiller Jameson bourbon. The first post office in Bourbonnais was established in 1840. In 1851, a railroad was built through Bourbonnais and it became an incorporated community with a school and store on Main Street. By 1870, there were twelve stores in Bourbonnais and ninety-eight people living there. The arrival of automobiles made life more difficult for early residents but they soon adapted by establishing a network of roads that allowed them access to education, industry and commerce within easy walking distance. The first doctor in Bourbonnais was Drury Prentice which opened his practice on Main Street in 1876. He would serve as village physician until 1902 when he retired due to ageism at the time. Another doctor who served during this time is Dr Arthur Ritchie who arrived from Canada in 1903 and practiced for many years before moving back home to die unmarried at eighty-six years old in 1984 . In 1915, local farmers formed what would become known as "The Old Dutchmen" society which helped promote agriculture among their neighbors by providing seed money and advice on how best to grow corn, beans and other crops; also providing help with barns, irrigation systems, transportation problems etcetera! Through this organization vice versa activities such as dances were organized (the most popular event being “Prairie Home Faire”) or social events like potlucks took place where music played all evening long! One can only imagine what must have been felt like growing up here over those many decades! In 1954 we had our own high school (Fayette High School) when one Mrs Jane Healy donated land across from her house on Second Avenue for educational purposes only! A few years later we added another building onto that property housing our current library!! Today our town has grown again thanks largely to tourism (due both to its location & history), although some aspects remain much the same including friendly locals & great food !!
