The Bourbonnais National Guard was organized on November 30th, 1861. The guards were set up as a result of the American Civil War. At first, the Guards only served in Illinois and Kentucky. In 1862, however, the Guards began to serve in other states as well. By 1865, they had become an all-volunteer force. The Guards were disbanded in 1871 but re-organized again on July 1st of that year with the same name. They continued to serve until their formal disbandment on December 15th of that year. Despite their disbandment in 1871, the Bourbonnais National Guard has left a significant impact on Bourbonnais and its citizens. Their service has allowed for increased security and protection throughout the community. Additionally, their traditions and culture have been passed down through generations of residents who have participated in the Guard.

The Illinois National Guard was organized on November 5, 1903. The unit originally consisted of only men, but in 1907 the state legislature passed a bill authorizing the organization of an infantry battalion and an artillery battalion. The regiment was activated on December 1, 1907 and became known as the Bourbonnais Regiment. In 1915 the regiment was renamed the Illinois National Guard Infantry Battalion and in 1916 it became known as the Illinois National Guard Artillery Battalion. On May 30, 1920, the battalion was redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 501st Divisional Infantry Brigade with headquarters at Peoria. It concurrently became a part of Inder Army Corps under Lieutenant General John J. Pershing; however it remained inactive until its reactivation on October 14, 1943 as Headquarters Company (HHC) 9th Infantry Divisional Infantry Brigade Combat Team at Pontiac; this brigade also included Headquarters Company (HC) 10th Armored Divisional Infantry Brigade Combat Team at Chicago Heights. On July 16, 1945 HQ Company (HHC) 9th Infantry Divisional Infantry Brigade Combat Team retreated to Pontiac after orders were received from II Corps headquarters that all ground forces would be redeployed to Europe in anticipation of World War II ending soon. In 1951-1952 Inder Army Corp disbanded and HQ company reverted back to independent status within 9th ID elements along with other companies in parent unit forming 4th Armor Divisions which later absorbed battle groupHQs from 3rd Armored Cavalry/10th Armored Cavalry Divisions
Bourbonnais, Illinois is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,358 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of McLean County. The Bourbonnais post office has been in operation since 1868. Bourbonnais was platted on November 1, 1836 by John Pemberton and James Kieft as part of the Town of Carbondale. On July 1, 1850 it became a village charter with a population of 640. In 1857 it became an incorporated town when all the other towns within Mclean County were so doing. On January 1, 1861 it became a city when Carbondale and Ottawa were merged into one municipality. On December 15th of that year its name was changed to Bourbonnais after General Andrew Johnson's proclamation making this change effective as per US law at that time (See also "The History of McLean County" by Wm C Henshaw). On October 27th, 1912 the first tractor farm in Bourbonnais was established by Sallie Eaves Tolleson with five tractors purchased from J L Nichols & Sons dealership in Springfield IL This led to increased production for local farmers which continues to this day as corn and soybeans are two of the leading crops grown hereabouts

The Butterflies of Bourbonnais were first documented in 1916 when Dr. John Prentice collected butterflies at his home on County Road 7 near present-day Carbondale. During World War I, many residents of the town took up arms to help fight for democracy and against fascism. Many of these residents made donations to various war efforts including butterfly collecting! After the war ended, many people returned to their homes but continued to collect butterflies because it was such a popular hobby throughout the 70s and 80s! Today, there are still quite a few individuals who continue this interesting hobby as well as some excellent collections available from around the world! Bourbonnais has always been an important part of Illinois history due to its location within easy reach of major cities like Chicago and Springfield. Over time, Bourbonnais has become known for its rich agricultural history as well as its production of bourbon whiskey which is used in many different cocktails around the country! In addition to its agriculture heritage, Bourbonnais also contains some amazing architecture which can be found throughout downtown areas as well as on several other buildings including The Butler Hotel which is located right next door to The State Fairgrounds!
Bourbonnais was a small farming community in central Illinois. It was established in 1821, and the first store opened in 1824. The town grew rapidly, and by 1830 it had a population of over 100 people. In 1840, Bourbonnais became the county seat of Cook County.
