Bolingbrook is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,722 at the 2010 census. It is the northernmost community in Chicago and the second-smallest municipality in Cook County. Bolingbrook is located on Lake Michigan between Chicago to the south and Decatur Township to the north. The village of Bolingbrook was founded by Germans in 1836 as part of the large new township of Maywood which was created from parts of what were then three other villages: North Lawndale (now part of Evanston), South Lawndale (now part of Hyde Park), and West Side (now Woodridge). The first settler in Bolingbrook, Johann Gottlieb Kappelberger, arrived in 1837 with his family from Germany. Kappelberger's farm included a mill which he built himself and operated until 1847; it still stands today as one of Bolingbrook's few remaining heritage features. A post office was established at Bolingbrook on October 25, 1837, under the name "Maywood". In 1840, Maywood was annexed by Bolingbrook; however, no county seat had been designated for this new township until April 7, 1850 when Thorntonville was added to it. On February 2, 1857, Bolingbrokerville became an incorporated village after approval by voters at a special election held following annexation into Cleveland Park Township. On November 1st 1898 CPS merged with Northwest Indiana Normal School District #2 to form Northwestern Illinois State Normal School district #1; all school districts within CPS were reorganized on that date into unified entities called Northwestern Illinois State University Districts II through XXI. Bolingbrook is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 382 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first known permanent settler in Bolingbrook was George Fenton, who arrived in 1814. He and his family were among the numerous families that moved to Bolingbrook from Peoria Township just south of the city limits in 1847. Bolingbrook's first school was built on State Street in 1848. The town boundaries changed several times during its history, but it always functioned as a rural community within the larger city center area. In 1899, when Joliette Township was organized within Cook County, Bolingbrook became one of its original townships and continued to serve as an agricultural and small-town community until 1959 when it merged with neighboring village of Hinsdale into one municipality called Hinsdale-Bolingbroke Heights. In 1964, Bolingbrook became home to two highly significant events: the opening of Apple Inc.'s new headquarters and Mayor Richard M. Daley's inaugural address at McCormick Place which signaled the beginning of Chicago's "New City" era where downtown business districts replaced villages as centers of economic activity across multiple municipalities throughout Chicagoland
