Bolingbrook, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. Bolingbrook was founded in 1847 by German immigrants. The population of Bolingbrook was 9,591 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village was formed from portions of West Side Settlement and Elgin Township on December 8, 1847. The first permanent settler in what would become Bolingbrook was Gottlieb Dreyfus who arrived with his family on November 16, 1848. Dreyfus had purchased land east of the tracks that would later become Bolingbrook Heights. Bolingbrook experienced its greatest growth during the early years of the 20th century when it became an important stop on the Chicago transportation system and served as a center for agricultural production and industry. Bolingbrook is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is the seat of Bolingbrook Township and the adjacent village of East Bolingbrook. The population was 21,569 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit this area were French traders and missionaries in 1763. They named it "Bolingbroke" after John Bolingbroke, 1st Earl of Essex who had been involved in the British Revolution that overthrew the monarchy. Jesuit missionaries arrived in 1774 and started a small mission school there. In 1809, when Illinois was organized as a state, Bolingbrook became its capital. In 1820, Bolingbrook's first store opened on State Street and Griggs Road (now US 50). The town quickly grew with several other stores opening until it reached its peak around 1830 with over 60 businesses active within a two-mile radius of each other. By 1840, only 10 businesses remained in what would become Bolingbrook Township. As early as 1837, efforts were being made to open a post office in present-day East Bolingbrook because letters sent to Chicago were not received there properly due to an error on part of the mail carrier's assistant dispatcher. When finally opened on July 1st of that year by Postmaster General James Krieger Sr., East Bollingbrook had more inhabitants than any other township or village in Cook County – which only served residents within its own boundaries! In 1852, during one of the most significant moments for Bolingcroftians when their city Limits were extended westward along State Street from Griggs Road past present day White Hall Road – “The Great Expansion” took effect when construction began on what would become First National Bank building across White Hall Road from where today’s UIUC campus stands . This saw development such as new housing estates being built along both sides of what are now First National Bank Streets . This growth continued until about 1870 when local mills went out of business bringing about a decrease in population overall but also an increase in prices for goods sold at these stores During World War II many workers from nearby Joliettown moved into bolingsbrook so they could be close enough to support their families while they worked
