Bolingbrook is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 20,752 at the 2010 census. Bolingbrook is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It was established in 1836 as a small trading post on the north branch of the Des Plaines River by Captain John Fitch and his family. The name "Bolingbrook" derived from a Shawnee word meaning "place of plenty." The first store in Bolingbrook opened in 1837 and was built by Captain John Fitch and his family. By 1840, Bolingbrook had a population of 705 people. The first school was built in 1841 and became known as the School House Seminary. In 1846, Mr. Morse donated land to build an academy which became known as Friends Academy (later Park View Academy). In 1861, Mrs. Anna Warner organized a ladies Weekly Meeting at her home for social purposes and it became known as Mrs. Warner's Ladies' Home Meeting (later Park View Ladies' Home Meeting). In 1865, Drury College purchased property east of town from Friends Academy for $1,000 which became its campus after that institution moved to Elmhurst College in 1922 In 1887-1888, Bolingbrook formed a park district with public works being done by individuals or companies until 1924 when park District 1 was established with comprehensive park plans and funding from local taxes In 1916-1917 Bolingbrook experienced one of its most devastating fires when 2 barns caught fire on routes 16 & 17 near Center Road killing 9 people including 5 children who were playing inside In 1929 Abraham Jaffe founded Jaffe's Dairy which continues to be headquartered here today Mr. Jaffe died in 1984 but his memory remains strong with annual events such as the Abraham Jaffe Memorial Cheese Festival

Bolingbrook is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 24,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Bolingbrook is located on the east side of the Chicago River and is bordered by Addison to the north, Northbrook to the east, Vernon to the south and Berwyn to the west. The first people known to live in what is now Bolingbrook were bundles of sticks that called themselves "boucans", meaning "painted baskets" in French. By 1815, Indians had killed all but one white settler in what became Bolingbrook Township. A group of Methodist missionaries founded a school here in 1836 and named it after John Fenton, an Englishman who had been sent as a missionary among them some years earlier. In 1857-1858, two pioneering families from Decatur moved into Bolingbrook and started a grocery store there which grew into an empire with more than sixty stores throughout Cook County by 1916. One result of this early growth was that much of Bolingbrook's commercial center has passed away since then—but its architecture remains familiar including some well-known buildings such as Stuckus' Department Store (now Macy's) and First National Bank (now Wells Fargo). During World War II, many munitions plants were built in Joliette Park across from Boling Brook High School; these facilities produced munitions for America's war effort including bombs used against Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After V-E Day on 7 May 1945 – days before Hiroshima bombing began –boltingbrook residents helped load up their homes with candy bars from nearby convenience stores for distribution to Allied troops abroad; thisOperation Dandelion ended when Japan surrendered on 15 August 1945 effective immediately at 12:01am local time!
