The shop started out as a small grocery store with only coffee beans and water. Bolingbrook is home to Bolingbrook High School and two other public schools. The first settlers in what would become Bolingbrook were farmers who arrived in 1847 from Sweden. John Toland purchased land on the right bank of the Des Plaines River which included present-day Bolingbrook from Daniel De Salvo for $1,000 cash in 1848. By 1850, there were forty families living in BolingBrook Township and 1,500 residents residing within eight miles (12 km) of the township limits. In 1857, a post office was established at Bolingbrook with Wm Horsley as receiver and founder; it served until 1871 when it was moved to Mount Prospect.. In 1870, Jno Tarrant donated land along Milwaukee Road (now I-90) that now includes present-day Joliette Township to form an addition to the township boundaries; this donation also included much of modern-day Bolingbrook. In a December 10th 1886 issue of "The Northern Illinois Review" one can find an article about James Murnane who had just come overland from Canada as part of a group including Carleton College graduate George Blood and his brother John Murnane who had founded Murnane & Company Canning Packers in upstate New York some time before that trip. James Murnane had started out working for his father as a grocery store keeper before coming Westward and starting his own business after landing however only one contract - delivering goods for Hennepin County Line railroad passenger cars between Chicago and Stonington on Lake Michigan shorelines during winter months before being replaced by brothers John Aiken & Arthur Burtel carriers during summer months according to their account ledger kept with the CPR Railroad Archives at Galesburg (now MidAmerica Museum). This pioneer enterprise lasted until 1903 when they merged with Canadian National Railway's White Sands line making them the only familyownedCAN&H company west of Manitoba until those days ended with CN's purchases by Alcoa back east in 1920."

Bolingbrook was founded in 1853 by George Washington Bolling and his brother-in-law Willard C. Richardson as a small agricultural community on the east bank of the Fox River. The two men started a flour mill and established a grocery store before moving to their first home in 1859. In 1865 they built the first block of stores on Main Street and became one of the leading towns in Cook County. They also developed a large dairy industry which helped Bolingbrook become an important center for economic development in central Illinois during the 19th century. The town's success led to growth within its boundaries; by 1912 Bolingbrook had grown to encompass nearly all of present-day Cook Counties (with only Racine remaining). As suburban housing moved into older neighborhoods near Interstate 95, many residents began commuting to work outside of Bolingbrook; this addition not only increased bolingbrook's size but also changed its character from rural village into an increasingly urban center with strong commercial ties.
