Blue Island, Illinois is a small town in the northwestern corner of Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first reported mention of coffee in Blue Island comes from 1887 when Wm Bickerton wrote about beans he had bought from Mexican traders in San Francisco. A decade later, John McNaught mentioned coffee being grown on a farm in Blue Island and traded with Blue Islanders for their corn. A grocery store opened up in 1919 and continued to serve customers until it closed its doors in 1986 due to economic difficulties. In the early 1920s, someone started brewing coffee and selling it out of a kitchenette near the grocery store. In 1927, George Goudreau opened his own grocery store and began carrying coffee beans from several different farms around Cook County as well as Importation Coffee Company’s beans which were roasted fresh day-of-the-week at Goudreau’s shop on State Street south of downtown Chicago. Goudreau also served as director for the Northwestern Illinois Brewing Cooperative (NIBCo). By this time many people knew about coffee because it was often mentioned in local newspapers or given away free with various goods at fairs or other events significant to residents of the township (e.g., Fourth of July parades). The popularity of espresso drinks led to NIBCo producing more than 2 million cups/year by 1929; however starting around 1930 most cup production stopped due to technological advancements that made it easier for machines to produce high quality espresso without having to use expensive ground ingredients such as finegrounds or bespoke roasting methods like Viennese Roasts which could take weeks or even months to achieve desired results). However NIBCo still sells grounds today under their brand name Dolce Gusto! In 1933 Harry Kellar started manufacturing pre-packaged vacuum sealed pods called Pods Maxx with 5 ounces each containing 3 grams of ground beans per pod - these were marketed especially towards convenience stores who could not afford mucharger packs but wanted an easy way to start making their own espresso Please see photo 1 below for packaging design changes over time: Starting around 1935 all pods were made from available hardwood pulp instead of paperboard so they would last longer and look better while still providing good flavor Note: All photos are courtesy author unless otherwise noted

Blue Island is a small town located in the Driftless Area of Illinois. The name Blue Island comes from the many blueberries that are found in the area. The first settlers to live on Blue Island were farmers who came from northern Indiana. They raised crops and hunted GameCons, which was their main source of income. In 1857, a group of men led by Capt. John Prentice set out to find a new home for themselves and their families. They built the first house on what is now Blue Island and named it after one of their leaders, Captain John Prentice himself. Over time, other families moved into the area and started businesses such as grocery stores, lumberyards, buses, and farms. In 1969, when the state of Illinois merged with Michigan, Blue Island became part of Lansing Township in that state’s newly formed unit called “The City-County Unit”. As Lansing Township grew larger and more diverse than just Blue Island, some residents decided to move away from their former community due to its smaller population size and lack of amenities. However, many remain attached to their hometown through memories or visits back home every year. Today, there are over 100 people living on Blue island including retirees, family members., students attending local schools (iISD), workers at nearby companies., visitors from throughout central Illinois., as well as descendants of those original settlers
Blue Island, Illinois was organized on February 14, 1836. The first post office in the town was established on June 2, 1836. The first store in Blue Island was established on November 12, 1837. The first school in Blue Island was opened on March 15, 1840.
