Blue Island, Illinois is a small village located in DuPage County, Illinois. The population was 1,827 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Village of Blue Island was organized on December 3, 1871, from parts of the towns of West Dundee and Round Lake Beach. At its incorporation, it had a population of only 2 people. On July 8, 1872, the Village became a city with a population of 10 people. The first mayor was John Fenton and the first council member were James Sledge and Hiram Wohlwendt. In 1924/25 the City changed its name to Blue Island Township due to increasing competition from other municipalities inDuPage County for limited tax assessable acreage within their limits (the township originally consisted only of land east of I-294). In 1955/56 when all Du Page counties were consolidated into one county (DuPage), Blue Island Township lost its charter as an independent municipality but it still continues to exist as an Entity within that larger unit without legal rights or privileges accorded unto it by law. From 1936 until 1959 Blue Island had one physician for every 25 residents; however this has been gradually decreasing as more and more residents move away for health reasons or because they have found better medical care elsewhere in town or outside Du Page County altogether - now there are currently three physicians for every 100 residents! As mentioned earlier though, with current trends towards decentralization in American society many villages like Blue Island will likely lose their independence over time while still retaining cultural features and identities unique to that particular village or town oregon

Blue Island is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It was founded on the bank of the Chicago River in 1847 by James G. Blount and his wife, Sarah. The name comes from the blue jean color that residents wore to market. At its peak, Blue Island had a population of about 1,200 people. However, it declined after World War II and has since shrunk to about 100 people. The town also lost its main shopping center in the late 1990s and early 2000s when Sears Holdings Corporation moved out of its original location on North Main Street into an adjacent building across the street. The first post office in Blue Island was established in 1851; it closed in 1865. The first store was built on South Main Street in 1855 by John Auld and his brother-in-law Moses Asbury. In 1857, David Wiggins opened a grocery store at 601 Wabash Avenue which became one of the most important stores in Blue Island before it closed in 1904. In 1906, John Fenton opened a farm store at 910 South State Street which became another significant business entity during its time as part of Blue Island's commercial district; however, it closed within 5 years due to competition from larger businesses located further away on Wabash Avenue (including J&J Hardware). In 1916–17, Red Cross nurses served as caretakers for sick patients at Grange Hospital while their families wereaway during World War I; this experience helped solidify local support for emergency medical services following World War II as more people began living near Chicago than away from it. From 1951 until 1969—a period marked by growth and development around downtown Blue Island—the post office served as the primary customer service center for all activities surrounding Grange Hospital; this included but wasn’t limited to social events such as dances and picnics held outdoors or inside the hospital’s six buildings along North Michigan Avenue (the hospital itself being located only across Northwest Indiana Streets from downtown). The last patient treated here was released on December 15th 1969 after spending over 12 months recovering from surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital with help provided by volunteer nurses who worked shift patterns throughout November/December 1969 including 8:00am to 6:00pm Central Time! This event is commonly cited among some locals as marking “end” of an era when Grange Hospital functioned more like a modern day neighborhood grocery store with individual patient rooms instead of just large corridors filled with patients waiting their turn for attention! After over 50 years serving those who needed quality healthcare without taxpayer funded assistance Grange Hospice finally shut down effective March 30th 2009 but left behind many legacy items such as Nursery Room features still visible today including light switches & door handles!
Blue Island, Illinois was founded in 1824 by John K. Polk and his family. The area that is now Blue Island was part of the ancient village of Hennepin. In 1825, the Polk family moved their farm to what is now Blue Island from their previous location in Columbia County. The first settler on Blue Island was Isaac Green, who arrived in 1826. By 1830, there were seven families living on the island. In 1835, the first school on Blue Island was built and it served as a primary school until 1954 when it became a secondary school. The first doctor on Blue Island was Dr. John Laddington and he established a dispensary in 1840. The first bank in town was the First National Bank which opened in 1842 and closed within two years due to economic difficulties. In 1865, Sampson Sargent purchased land from Jno Wirtz along the north shore of Lake Michigan for $1,000 (). He began developing this land into what is now known as Sargent Park which included one of the most impressive mansions ever built at that time - incorrectly called "The White House" because its builder did not have citizenship at that time - called "The Mansion". This mansion still stands today and is currently used as a hotel by Northwestern University students during term time while also hosting functions for various civic organizations throughout the year including fireworks displays July 4th through October 1st annually around Independence Day weekend). In 1903, Chicago mayor William Maynard James Cox recommended that all township mayors be elected at-large rather than via party lines so that more people could participate in municipal government without fear of being shut out or having their vote nixed if they did not support Cox's policies (Cox himself would later become Mayor ofChicago)). After much discussion and voting among township mayors – with about seventy mayors casting votes overall – Red Wing Township chose to implement this system instead of following Maynard James Cox's recommendation and thus becoming one of only two townships statewide to do so (the other being Mahoning Valley).
