The Coast Guard has been providing emergency services in Bloomingdale, Illinois since 1876. At that time, the first coast guard station was established in the town. The Coast Guard responded to both local and national emergencies throughout its history. In 1976, the Coast Guard relocated its headquarters from New York to Bloomingdale. This move allowed for a more centralized command and control structure for all of the Coast Guard’s emergency response efforts in Illinois. Additionally, this new headquarters provided additional resources and support for local police departments who were required by state law to have access to the Coast Guards resources. Today, the Coast Guard still provides emergency services in Bloomingdale through two stations- one on First Street and one on Court Avenue. In addition, there is a Reserve unit that patrols the area around Chicago’s Harbor Park during high tides and low tides. Additionally, members of the public are able to call 1-800-HELP-COAST GUARD for assistance during any type of emergency situation.

It moved to its present location on West Side Drive in 1947. In 1976, the station received a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kapp who donated a plaque in memory of their son, Ray E. Kapp Jr., who served as an officer with the Coast Guard from 1951-1976. In 2008, another gift was given when Mrs. Janice Ransom gave her donation of a new boathouse to help improve the water quality at the station.

Bloomingdale is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 24,827 at the 2010 census. Bloomingdale is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Bloomingdale was first settled by Germans in 1836. The town name derived from "Borstal" or " Borstal Haus", an agricultural school built in 1785 near present-day Bloomingdale Park. The original German settlers were farmers and their families who grew corn, beans, potatoes, apples and other vegetables for local markets and sold their produce door to door. The town's first post office was established in 1836 and handled mail only from rural Illinois towns with fewer than 100 residents. In 1853, Bloomingdale acquired its own fire department which became one of the largest in Illinois at the time. In 1907, a group of Dutch immigrants founded a grocery store on North Milwaukee Avenue in what is now known as Daley Plaza downtown. That same year saw the arrival of waves of Italian Americans who began moving to Chicago during the growth of that city's heavy immigration wave following World War I. By 1920, Italians made up more than 50% of Bloomingdale's population and they would continue to make sizable contributions to its economy through shopping malls, professions such as law enforcement and education until after World War II when they largely left for other urban areas throughout Chicagoland while Blumelton businesses continued to thrive into the 21st century. In recent years many small businesses have closed within Bloomfield Township due to changing demographics or economic recession; however some larger businesses have thrived like JCPenney (once located just north of downtown), Sears Roebuck & Co., Macy’s Inc., Ford Motor Company’s Lincoln Division headquarters from 1925 until 1992 before it moved out west near Wrigley Field and KFC later moved into suburban Comerica Park northwest of downtown Chicago). Many residents still commute into jobs outside Bloomfield Township including Dearborn Heights (northwest side) which has seen rapid development over recent decades with much new housing being built on streets formerly used for agriculture or manufacturing; Rushville (southwest side) which sees steady growth despite a lack of major employers; Westmont (west side) where many people work corporate offices located adjacent to large private schools; Allendale (just east side) home to several prestigious hospitals/clinics as well as smaller medical offices; Gurnee Village (east side), home also to several high-end restaurants
The Bloomingdale's department store was founded in 1892 by John D. Bloomingdale and his wife, Mary. The store grew rapidly, opening its first location in 1902 at the corner of Dearborn and Madison Streets. In 1912, Bloomingdale opened its second location on State Street in downtown Chicago. The company continued to grow throughout the 1920s and 1930s, until it reached its peak under the leadership of John D. "Jock" Argyle in the 1940s. In 1984, Bloomingdale merged with JCPenney to form Sears Holdings Corporation.
