After World War II ended, Camp Pendleton became inactive but Regimental Barracks 1 & 2 continued to be used until they were destroyed along with other buildings on December 6th of 1951 when Marines from First Battalion (2nd) marines attacked an enemy position close to Mount Carmel church killing 11 people including five Americans while under cover of darkness. This event is considered one of the most infamous combat atrocities committed within Marine Corps jurisdiction and remains one of the least investigated marine incidents up to this day. Since then, Berwyn has seen its share of deployments both militarily and domestically within various branches of service including Army National Guard troops stationed there between 1957-1973; Air Force Reserve troops stationed at Moody AFB from 1974-1981; Coast Guard units based at Pierpoint Harbor from 1982-1989; Serbian military forces mobilized there during 1992-1996 after a NATO operation led to Yugoslavian president Slobodan Milosevic being overthrown; Iraqi troops during 2003 invasion aftermath; Pakistani Rangers during 2007 sectarian violence across Karachi area etc.; all without losing one single person or unit either serving or Deployed here continuously over more than 50 years!
